Dash2gam 2.4 Beta
« on: April 18, 2005, 08:59:00 AM »

I noticed there isnt a topic for the BETA version of dash2gam 2.4 yet so heres one

I just finished installing dash2gam 2.4 beta and so far so good except for a few things that I hope will be fixed by the final release of 2.4

* The DVD drive is still unaccessable from FTP by opening the DVD folder, you need to type in /D/ as your path to gain access to the dvd drive

* the message displayed on boot is still in french when set up for english (although this can be changed by editing line 84 in the file:
Dash2Gam\2GAM.data\Datas\Langues\1.ini
The translation is: Scanning Hard Drive please wait... )

* A few times a dialog messsage (such as do you wish to reboot) stays up when it has been canceled and the dash still continues to operate behind it, a reboot is required to get rid of it

I did get rid of a few of the menus from the main menu (games and menu skins) but heres a screen of it for those of you who havent seen it

Does someone know what to change to have the temp readings in Celsius?

Anyone else had a go at the BETA yet?

I've got it runnign perfectly except one thing - the dash ONLY runs in PAL60 and 480p, and I have NTSC HDTV. The older version I had ran in NTSC 1080i like it should. Any help? I don't see how to fix this anywhere.

Found 1 Bug

1. When I try to access the Memory Menu it freezes when I press A.

 - Suggestions -

1. Allow to change skins without rebooting
2. More skins! (even though the default one is badass!)
3. Allow direct FTP like EvoX
4. Have their own trainer menu.
5. Auto-Update software
6. Direct the music folder to the music stored in the HDD
7. Have background music

That's all I can think of for now...

sunn02 i dont think that you can change the date format but i could be wrong, read through the text files in the a lire directory and see if you can find anything

The intro movie can be played on startup by changing the config_pro file

QUOTE
[VideoIntro]
1=oui/non .................... Display or not the introduction video of the dashboard
2=oui/non .................... Display or not the introduction video of the running skin

remembering that in french 'oui' is yes and 'non' is no

Brandogg maybe because it is only a beta that you can run it at 1080i?

Liquidvlade hiraduo in response to your "suggestions"

1. dash2gam has always acted this way when changing skins
2. not sure if v2.3 skins will work with 2.4 (havent tried it yet) but im sure that there will be more skins soon
3. As i said in an earlier post there is one problem with the FTP but other than that it is direct
4. trainer menu would be cool  biggrin.gif
5. as far as i know most xbox programs dont auto update and im quite happy to download patches and update myself they usually arent big
6. im not sure what you mean by this question
7. Do you mean background music like the M$ dash or background music from your ripped CDs on the Xbox hard drive

to have the sounds from the M$ dash remember to copy the audio folder from the C drive to your dash2gam folder

Like sigwood said earlier 3.0 beta is out, in one day they have gone from 2.41 to 3, i wonder why?

The creators must listen to the users cause there is a few bug fixes ( loads faster and the FTP problem is fixed)

the config file structure has changed alot according to the change log but im still downloading it (damn dial up) so ill let you guys know what its like when ive got it up and running

I dont know how i ever had a modded xbox without this dash, it just keeps getting better

I've always nuked intros with any skin but damn if that isn't the first one I might use. Nicely done. I'll second what everyone is saying about the dash just getting better. I've been using UnleashX for ages (which is a killer dash) but I can't see using anything other than Dash2Gam from now on. Bum kissing aside there are still two (really) minor things bugging me:

1) I can't hear the ambient sound file for some reason (engineroom I think it's called?) but every other dash sound works great. Anyone else have the same issue or am I just lucky? The lack of it is really noticeable. My Xbox is a 1.6b with X3 3108.

2) The tilted arm thing with the 2GAM skin. You can see exactly what I mean by looking at the pic mintoman posted. Look at the XBMC arm and notice how crooked it is compared to the horizon. The arms on the MS skin are perfectly horizontal. The new 2GAM is without a doubt the best I've ever seen on any dash and would love to be able to straighten the arms.

Anyway like I said really minor things but if anyone has suggestions that'd be great.

Jack that intro video is actually from when you put a Xbox game into a DVD player, found that out by putting an original xbox game in my pcs dvd rom

1) did you copy over the audio folder from c: to the dash2gam directory? ill have to check on my xbox (1.1) when i get the chance and let you know if there is the ambient audio but from memory the dash only uses the transition sounds from the M$ dash and not the ambient (background music from soundtracks)

If dash2gam doesnt play the ambient audio files in the background i might have a  way to make it play, ill test it on my Xbox later and let you know

2) i did alot of reading through and comparing of the Skin.ini's and the english config_pro.ini and cant find anything about the angle of the arms on the 2GAM skin, to change it would probably involve editing the skin.xip (which is way over my head) somehow to alter the angle.

After a few hours of altering file locations and editing config files i finally got 3.0B up and running and set up the way I want it and so far its going really good except for:

1. during DVD play back the M$ skin is used for the menu bar that comes up when you push display on the remote even when using the 2GAM skin (maybe the 2GAM DVD skin isnt ready?)

2. for some reason while i was testing it the 2GAM skins buttons became M$ skinned when selected (hopefully just a beta issue)

These are the only bugs i have found so far and both seem to be skinning related, cant wait for 3.0 final

So if anyone needs a hand setting up 3.0 just ask and ill do my best to help you out

theres no turning back now, Dash2GAM all the way!!

D'oh I wasn't aware Dash2Gam only used transition sounds. Explains why I can't hear the engineroom file. If you figure out a way to play ambient sounds that would be killer. Kinda figured that skin fixing bit would be tough. Tried figuring it myself but... blink.gif

QUOTE(sunn02 @ Apr 20 2005, 01:38 PM)
and one more question about dash2gam 3b, i installed it almost the same way i did 2.4 with all the location configuring and everything, how come it wont work?

I don't know which chip you're using but I had a couple snags as well with my 3.0b install. Make sure the Dash2Gam.xbe (named default.xbe originally) is placed in the same directory as the Dash2Gam folder. Not in the actually folder though.

My E: drive looks like this...

E:
Applications (folder)
Dash2Gam (folder)
Dash2Gam.xbe
dvd.dll
etc, etc, etc

My config_pro.ini looks like this...

[Systeme]
1=default
2=E:
3=root
4=MS
[FTP]
LocalIP=xxx.xxx.x.xxx
SubMaskIP=xxx.xxx.xxx.x
GateWayIP=xxx.xxx.x.x
Password=xbox
Login=xbox
[LED]
LedSequence=gggg

Make sure (If your chip is X3) that you update the dashboard boot drive inside X3 Config if needed. My Dash2Gam.xbe was on my C: with older versions and I had to switch it to E: for the new xbe.

Hope that helps.

Jack, I just realised that in 3.0B the arms on the 2GAM skin actually are straight so theres one problem solved

and after quite a bit of work with audio codecs and converting i have made a fix for the ambient audio, using dash2gams built in soundtrack player i have managed to get the 3 main ambient files to play in the background like the M$ dash

Download this file and follow the instructions from the readme text file

mintomans_dash2gam_ambient_audio

any problems or questions just ask

anyone know who i talk to so we can get a dash2GAM section in the dashboards section instead of it being relegated to the 'other dashboards section' this dash is established enough to have its own sub-forum.

EDIT: Link didnt work before

sunno2 ill look into your skinning problems when i get back from work, but i know that the orb is green because it is using the xbox4.xbx? file from the M$ skin

I will look to see if i can edit the .inis to fix the highlight problem and im sure that theres a blue orb floating around on the net

ill post the skin here when i finish it

The tabs and the orb use actual xbx textures, so to change them you have to change the textures.  GameHilite_01.xbx, hilight.xbx, and xbox4.xbx are all textures in the skin.xip file.  You can change any of the textures to ones that you want to use.

the skin.xip file is in the folder of the skin

so for the 2gam skin the skin.xip will be in:

Dash2Gam\2GAM.data\Skins\2GAM\skin.xip

to edit this file you will need a program like winXIP

to have no orb im not sure whether there is an option in the config to do this

or you could just remove the xbox4.xbx from the skin.xip (back it up unless you want it back)

although this second option wouldnt be the prefered over editing a config file
