Ms Dash Keeps Resetting After Aladdin Install
« on: January 23, 2005, 10:27:00 PM »

Would anyone know whats wrong here? I installed chip and I could access MS dash fine then I ran slayers 2.6 and booted to evox fine then tried MS dash and no go. All it does is keeps resetting after the "X" logo comes up and MS underneath, I can briefly see the tabs in MS dash but it just resets. I even tried fixing it through the option in slayers but still nothing, and I also even tried taking the chip off of pinheaders :-(

My setup is this:
1.6 xbox, I dont think its a 'b' but dont know, cause I thought 'b's had brown dvd power cables, as the last four xboxes I have bought haven been yellow, brown, white, white. I dont know what the whites are?
My chip is Aladdin XT 4032, not sure which bios is on it, but they came from creztor so if anyone knows.

@wtfd00d: further to our Live forum posts, let's try to get it working eh...

(i) Do the /E/TDATA/FFFE0000 and /E/UDATA/FFFE0000 directories exist?  (It doesn't matter whether their names include any lowercase.)  If they don't exist, then create them.

(ii) Rename /E/CACHE to something else (the M$ dash will automatically create it again when it needs it).

Does it still reset when booting now eh?

@incognegro: the M$ dash uses the FFFF0000 folders and will automatically create any subfolders it needs in them (such as for music).  Try renaming the one that already existed and then re-create it eh.

Do you have a version 1.6 box and did you create the dash from slayers 2.6 too (also, do you know if any apps used on the box may have changed eeprom settings) eh?

i dont really know.............all i cant tell you is i dont use that dash for anything other copy cds. i discovered this problem after i was deleting nexgen off my c drive cause i couldnt get it to work; i was using unleash x to do it and i don't know if i deleted an important file for the xbox dash or what but ever since that this problem started. I wasnt doing anything to mess with my eeprom settings (atleast to my knowledge) i was just trying nexgen out cause i heard good things. My xbox is 1.0 and is setup so that when i press eject instead of power to start it up it turns off the modchip and runs the original dash instead. If i do try to use the eject button now, it just goes pass the MS logo to a green screen for a split second and resets and repeats that cycle until i turn the thing off. Help please!

@incognegro: what are the directory and file names in /C (just the root contents) plus what size, in bytes, are those files?  Also, what are the file names and sizes in the /C/fonts directory eh?

this is from personal experience, and is all i can offer for a suggestion...
I am not even sure if it WAS what fixed my problem, cause it was a while ago but I burned and installed slayers 2.6 and then evox booted up just fine, but nothing else would load, period.  someone suggested that the files did not copy correctly from the disk, so the files weren't all there.  Now I know that I had some bios questions starting out as well, so it may be that reformatting and reinstalling or even burning another slayers disk didn't actually fix it, but I did do that at the same time as updating my bios.  So maybe you should try one or both.
