edit: to further answer your question, I'm not sure why (all settings be the same) it wouldn't work for you.  But since you want to use Ava anyway just make your bios boot the avadash.xbe by default.  Or whatever your bios currently boots then just make the ava xbe named that.  Then you will boot into Ava and not have FTP problems.
