Here's what I found looking at XSelect.CPP from 0.9:
bHasPasscode = LoadPasscode(); is run before the code that I think sets g_PassCodeFileToRead.  I bet that if someone simply changes the line

if ( bHasPasscode )

to

if ( LoadPasscode() )

that 0.9's handling of passwords will be fixed.

Good luck finding someone with the XDK to compile a new version.

My experimentation suggests that if .\dashes.txt exists and E:\UDATA\0123456789ABC\passcode.txt exists,  but not .\passcode.txt, then XSelect notices that.  It seems to still support passcodes, and notices if you change a passcode while running the program, but has a problem with when it loads the passcode.

hello!!!
thank you for your answer
I have the xdk with visual studion.net 2003
I have the debug mode on my xbox but when I wanted recompiled the program I have to notice that the source code is not compatible with visual studio.net 2003 bus it does not have there a sln file if a your solution thank you in advance

LOOK!!!!!

Documentation is provided to help other developers make a
                       working XBE file from the source. (Relies on MS XDK.)
                       The Visual Studio .NET (7.0) project files are not
                       included like they were in 0.6. These files didn't
                       work in VS6, nor VS .NET 2003 (7.1) which converted
                       badly (into a Windows, not an Xbox, project). Instead,
                       documentation is provided to help with any XDK/VS ver.

It sounds like you saw XSelect's documentation describing how2make.htm but that you haven't found that file.

It is illegal and against XS rules to offer files, especially XDK files.
