mxm and many other dashes support background music, either through a directory of mp3 or the xbox soundtracks.

Hey I know oswald just made a simple typo there... but MXM doesn't yet support MP3... the only 2 dashboards that I know that support MP3 are Avalaunch and XBOX Media Player/Center.  Most dashboards only support WMA files, NOT mp3 files...

I remember unleashX would play the music i ripped to my HD using the M$ dash

yeah... I see I did miss read that...

Still Avalauch and XBMP/XBMC support MP3 playback, but MXM and UnleashX support only WMA playback of music files...

I am going to try putting Avalunch on.  When I put this on, it just goes on my C drive, right?  I don't want to fuck my Xbox up.

I'd suggest you tell the people in the Avalaunch forum of your current xbox setup... ModChip you have installed (or software exploit that you are using).  What BIOS you are using (and if it's been modified, what modifications have been made to the BIOS.).  And any other important and relevent information you can think of...

Figurativily, yes, you can download it from #XBINS on EFNET and extract the entire archive and transfere it to your xbox c and go... but best to ask before you risk messing it up... (however in many/most cases, you can simply boot from a boot disc and repair an mistakes/problems).

Have fun... that's the important part...
