well, i disabled the Internet Gateway icon and i lost my internet connection. i think my slow speeds started when i upgraded the firmware on my router (or at least when I noticed that Internet Gateway icon). If anybody else can help it would be greatly appreciated

don't buy Linksys routers.  They blow.  They can't handle passive FTP commands properly, and I noticed a huge performance jump in xbox speeds going from a more expensive Linksys to my dlink 614+.  I got an extra meg/sec increase, just from switching routers.    Also, you kids out there using hubs, what the freaky-funk are you doing?  Hubs are okay for LOW-traffic situations.  Hence, high rate xbox transfers are not ideal....

keep in mind that it isn't always related to the computer hardware/cables/hub etc.

I have a V1.0 xbox with an 80gb seagate. My brother has a stock v1.1 xbox with 10gb seagate.

With the exact same version of evo-x hooked up to the same port on the network. My xbox gets about 8mb transfers. My brothers gets ~500k. If anyone can explain that without blaming the network or my setting i will give you a cookie smile.gif

and i'm guessing your brother seagate is the white top with 4 diamonds on the corner?

this is the numbers i have been experiencing with my installs..

Retail HD's..

WD 8 gb ..about 2.5-3.5 mb per sec - dl
10 gb Seagate (black rubber jacket) about 2.5-3.5 mb per sec - dl
10 gb Seagate.(white top, 4 diamond shape corners slim line HD) 500kb a sec..?!??! - dl

Upgraded HD's..

Maxtor 120GB 2mb buffer 7200rpm.   8-9mb per sec - dl , 4-6mb per sec upload
Maxtor 160GB 8mb buffer 7200rpm.   8-9mb per sec- dl , 4-6mb per sec upload
WD 60GB 8mb buffer 7200rpm.   8-9mb per sec- dl , 4-6mb per sec upload
Seagate 120GB 8mb buffer 7200rpm. 8-9mb per sec- dl , 4-6mb per sec upload

direct IBM THINKPAD T23 to Xbox w/crossover cable
Seagate 120GB 8mb buffer 7200rpm. 8-9mb per sec- dl , 4-6mb per sec upload

these figures has been consistant with over 40+ installs on clients xboxes now with xboxes ranging from v1.0 - v1.2..

they are installed on the same network cable/card/router and you see the difference in numbers.  even with the same xbox after i install the upgraded HD ..speeds pick up to 8mb per sec..

hope this helps some of you out.. for me i see it as nothing to do with the network wire unless there is damage to it and nothing really to do with the network card since most of us use standard 10/100 full duplex cards now anyways.

i suggest it would just be the HD's proformance issue. the white top seagate is just plain shit and can only handle 500Kb of data per sec.. theres no way to fix it except to get a bigger faster HD.. i suspect those new seagates are only 4200rpm.. not like those black rubber jacket seagates ..

(edit) i also installed the speed2k.. and PMK5 is right. it only increase your upload speed.
but hey thats better than nothing!  biggrin.gif

hey, i was transfering from my xbox to pc at 7kb a sec :-( and with the software you told me to download, im getting atleast 25KB per second. thanks alot, but this is still extremely slow...is there anything else you can recommend? or that anyone else can recommend?

lol, 25kb/s ......I feel sorry for you mann.  Dont mean to sound like a prick or anything but that is way too slow.  You should try getting new networking hardware or something and get a 7200rpm hard drive, both will help alot becuz obviously the xbox is capable of much higher range of speeds.

To everybody:  If my xbox did not transfer around 8-9 Mb/s then I would definitely try anything to tweak the settings or upgrade the hardware! Happy moddin' beerchug.gif

I once dropped a pair of plairs on my xbox, never ftp'd to it before, so not sure if the pliars broke it, but I cant use my xbox unless I use one of those fancy repeaters that fixes packets and boosts signal and stuff, so now I can only get 800k, its a 10t repeater, some of you who have extremly slow speeds might wanna try a repeater, oh ya and my 95 box I can only transfer at like 200k, to my win2k boxes which tap out at like 6

Full Duplex doesn't mean 200 Mb/s

It allows 200 Mb of bandwith, 100 for Upload and 100 for Download.

So it's still 100 Mb/s the max speed to ftp things to your XBOX.

I just tried this and it looks ok, I was at around 2.5m/s, and now I get around 3.5m/s.

Just wondering, in WinXP, where you can set the options for Full Duplex and all that, is "AutoSense" not as good as "100base TX Full_Duplex"? It doesnt seem to make alot of difference to me.

And the internet gateway thing is usually there for people that use thier computer as a router instead of using a hardware router.  If you are using a hardware router, you might want to try deleting all you network connections and then just adding the network card you have.  Unless its part of windows new network plug and play thing that I know nothing about, but some routers and stuff are using(you'd still be safe trying the unistall).

There are 4 speeds for normal ethernet
100mbps full duplex
100mbps half duplex
10mbps full duplex
10mbps half duplex

Autosense just picks the fastest speed that your connection can handle.  So if your cables and/or one of your connection can't handle 100mbps full duplex, it will step the speed down to a speed they can both handle.  Just like how your 56k modem steps down to 28.8 or 14.4 if you have crappy phone lines.

Oh and btw, I do have a router/hub (SMC Barricade) for the ones who think having a hub gives you bad speed.

Edit 2: I have upgraded my Ethernet card driver and I'm now ftping at 11mb/s under EvoX...
