Nexgen Update
« on: March 28, 2003, 06:41:00 AM »

First of all Hi - I thought it was about time that I registered on here smile.gif

OK all this nexgen bashing is really gay.

The beta (or alpha) was simply a sneak peak at the graphics. Erm thats it.

Yes the ftp was buggy as hell and 90% of the features were not even on there - but this was explained so why I see posts talking about how buggy it is and that nexgen should go fuck themselves is totally beyond me.

I have to admit after all the bashing and shitting on the team they all said fuck it - why should they bust their ass on a FREE product when basher morons were casuing all this bullshit when the release was so obviosuley a sneak preview that was never meant to be a fully functional release. However i've talked them round and i've spent many hours with the nexgen guys over the last few days to actually get something out that partially resembles what we are trying to acheive.

I would also like to announce that Team Assembly have now joined the team. So expect all of the features of config magic and much much more built into the dash.

Much progress this week (fix majority of ftp bugs (still a couple more) - added customizable theme / skin support. Coded some embedded games just for shits and giggles (you'll love 3d pong hehe) plus lots more apps and utils.

Frankly the bashers (aka couldn't code to save their asses) can blow me - and many thanks to the supporters and non bashing participents in discussions, we are working hard to give you a real nice dash which im sure you'll have much fun using.

Although I wasn't blown away by the sneak-peak of neXgen, I knew it was an alpha, and I was in no position to berate its shortcomings.  And who the hell is?  If all the features were intact, why would it be called an alpha?

Anyway, I don't want you guys to rush it.  Team Xecutor and Team GotMod have an incredible standing in the scene right now.  You don't want to blow it by hastily throwing code together.  Although EvoX has made great strides, people have tended to lose respect for them over their buggy IGR released well after your BIOS IGR.

I say take your time and release a quality product, just as you have done with your BIOS.

you forgot to mention Team Assembley too smile.gif

I cant see why evox should get a bad rap for their igr tho - after all they've developed some great dash stuff and continue to do so

with xecuter and evox working away at new stuff it can only be good for the scene in general smile.gif

Ubergeek.. Do you have any estimate as to when it will be released. Due to a house move in two weeks time I will be off the internet for a few months until I can get my broadband re-installed at the new address, and knowing that i may have missed the release is gonna kill me.. unless of course it was due for release within the new two weeks..  unsure.gif

Ok first i got to say well done for managing to get them to continue with the project! It sounds like this is going to be one hell of a dashboard when it comes out! Just out of intrest when you mention the games do you mean you will simply add some of the other 'homebrew' games that have been made in a bundle with neXgen or do you mean that you are going to make your own games as well?
The thing i probably thought was the best idea was the

added customizable theme / skin support

We were talking about that in a thread lower down and i said i thought it would be cool if it could be intergrated. I am sure that when you do release this to the public it will get the reception it deserves- a good one.
It has annoyed me with loads of people bashing it because
a) its free
cool.gif if they can do beter they should try
c) they are mostly damned n00bs!

Well keep up the good work with the team, send them my support and i think it's great you got team assembly working at it with you!

No offense to Team Assembly, but your post was the first I had heard of them.  I can't speak on their notability without any prior knowledge. smile.gif

I understand you're trying to be politically correct, and you can also see EvoX's bugs from a developer's perspective.  However, they have lost a portion of their respectability because of bug(s) in their dashboard's feature(s).  That isn't to say I have any personal disrespect for them, I'm just speaking on my observation of the community as a whole.

I thought nexgen was pretty cool, being that its alot ike the M$ dashboard, but until the final version of nexgen comes out Ill tick with Evolution X, though I still think nexgen will be a good alternative in given time

One question:
Will I be able to do new HD preparation with a NeXgen boot disk, similar to what can be done with evox? Maybe have the dash install itself and setup few other things as well afterwards?
