k guys there's a simple solution to all of this. first of all I don't want to insult your intelligence by some of my suggestions. I read your post but I may accidently tell you to do something you already did. First of all. You say you get an error 16. Unplug your ide cable from the xbox mobo and try to boot. It should halt when trying to load the dash. If it gives you an error code I believe it is using the default ms bios. I could be wrong on that but I believe it to be the case. If that holds true you obviously need to check your connections. If your chip is connected and you try to boot from a cd it depends on the drive you have but burn it again at like 4x on a high quality cdrw. Make sure evox is default.xbe. If that doesn't work I don't know what to tell ya other than to make another cdrw amd try to boot to boxplorer.

Remember, the xbox is a GAME system (well, more than that when you do the stuff we do to it!), but my point is, let's have some perspective. The way i fixed this prob was to change bios's on my chip. I found that some of the new ones have a prob with the first dvd check. I used the old evoX bios and it did the check and booted form the dvd without checking the hdd. then use whatever you want to fix it, my advice is just put a cut-down version of evoX then ftp in replace dash and your off!!!

(ps for thos interested, don't try to do a hdd swap using the christmas bios, if you do you'll know why!!)

damn Dirkbox. I went further in depth than you. Sorry if that pisses you off that I did better at explaining something than you. I read the whole thread before I posted and I thought you made a good point but I just made it clearer. Don't get so pissed off when we are all trying to help. This isn't competition, it's just help. I had a simmilar problem maybe you should reburn your evox cd.
Just a thought worked for me there are unlock programs and instructions out there to put your hd in the comp to be formatted.

i use evox 1.8458 find this evox and it will give you an auto ip may be with this you can connect to the pc then edit from there and remove the xbe and put in the evox. make the cdrw of the 1.8458cdrw.
