Solved the news feed problem. If anyone else was curious, this command will get you started in the right direction:

Text Top="448" Left="336" Width="274" Scroll="0" Color="0xFF000000" Source="Newsfeed" Align="Left" /

Keyword being "Newsfeed", you need that in your skin file. You also need to define your newsfeed sites in config.xml, however they default to xboxscene and xbins
