How Do I Check My Nic Speed

All Xbox-nics are 100 mbit with autoneg. So it should automatically sense the correct speed and duplex depending on the switch/hub/nic/etc connected to the other side of the cable...

yep, its autonegotiated.

you can look at the lights on your hub/switch/etc... most have an indicator for what speed  you're running at.

if you're running a higher-class device, some support physically setting the port speeds, but most should be set to autonegotiate as well

Thanks guys.

I have a 100mbps switch and a 100mbps nic in the desktop computer that I'm transfering files to/from.   I'm only getting around 500kb/s which doesn't sound right to me.  I guess I'll do some more troubleshooting and testing and see if I can increase these speeds.

Thanks again.

Jeff.

500 kb/s is very low. Some ideas:

* Try tansfering to another computer. Maybe there is a problem with the computers nic. Have you forced it to 10 mbit half duplex or something?

* Try another ftp-program.

* Have you changed some tcp/ip settings recently to try to maximize your internet connection? If so, that might be the problem...

I once had slow speeds to my box - only got 2-3 MByte/sec. Speeds to other computers were normal though. I had to reinstall WinXp to get everything back to normal - 8-9 MByte/sec. I have no idea what was wrong.

of course this doesn't tell us shit with 502.11g adapters plugged into our XBOXs.

I have the following Buffalo Wireless:

Model: WRB-G54K

Features:
• WLA-G54C Repeater Laptop Magazine Editor’s Choice*
• WBR-G54 Router – Buffalo’s Most Popular 54g Product
• 802.11g 54Mbps High-speed Wireless
• No configuration required for the repeater
• Doubles the range of your Wireless Network
• Access the Internet from anywhere in your environment
• Cover “dead spots” or extend your wired LAN

I'm lucky to get 1700Kbps whereas I get 7000Kbps with a wired connection.

It's likely something I have to tweak on the wireless adapter that's plugged into the XBOX, but I have no way to pull up any kind of configuratio screen. I suppose maybe I could borrow a laptop and plug the wireless adapter into it and configure it that way and then plug it back into the XBOX, but I'm uncertain any changes made on the laptop would carry over after being plugged back into the XBOX..

Oh well..

I get really nice speeds transfering stuff from my pc to the xbox, but transfering stuff from the xbox is really slow (approx 4-500k).  Does anybody have any idea why this would happen?

I have a Compex 8Port Switch, and I copy with 11,5MB/s from the xbox and about 9-10MB/s to the xbox. As ftp client I use Total Commander.
Same transfer rates in exoX, unleasX and XBMC!!! with 10m Cat5e cable!!

I usually get 25-35MBps going from the xbox to the pc, it didn't want to do it that fast today though.

wow, that's awesome transfer speeds gamerguy.  I haven't watched it transfer a large file recently(new pc), but I usually get 10-12mb/s.  I have no clue how you get 25-35mb/s.  You run raid? sata? and what hdd do you have in the xbox?

The xbox has a 100MBit network card, and it is even theoretically not possible to transfer more than 12,5Megabyte/s. Perhaps your ftp client works not correctly.

Edit:
Your client doesn't work correct. At your screenshot you can see that you transfered 602,10 Megabyte in 55 seconds. 602,10 : 55 = 10,947. Your speed is about 11Megabyte/s this is fast for a 100MBit Network. But 14,7Megabyte/s isn not correct!!

The weird thing is though that I have done this with 3 or 4 computers and get the same speeds(supposedly). I also have never heard of anyone else having this happen to them. Why am I the only one uhh.gif ?
