I just can't seem to get this right.  I can do XBC fine and I can run Xlink from XBMC just fine.  I just can't get my newsfeeds to work or d/l skins/gamesaves.

When I switch my xbox from static to dhcp I lose all connection and can't do anything (ftp, XBC, Xlink).

I know my settings have to be close...I just don't know what I'm missing here.  I am running my internet and xbox through a linksys router.  I also have RSS News downloaded and installed on my computer.

Please help me.  I've read through the other config threads and got even more confused because they all suggest running dhcp which seems to disable all connection to my xbox.

Thank you in advance.

Also, what do you think the "lease" information is referring to?  About 2 months ago I bought this new new computer and had earthlink installed about a month ago.  I have no clue what "leased" could refer to.  I'm kinda nervous about that.

Okay, I just tried this and got an http status error of 11002.  I tried both static and dhcp.  I guess that's better than a 404.  huh.gif

Thanks for the help though, grebulon.  Any other ideas?

Your behind a router so set your "static" tag to "dhcp" and it should auto configure the rest as long as the ip range is within your routers range(i.e 192.168.2.1 won't work if your on 192.168.0.x Ip range), only downside is that your ftp proggie will need to connect to the assigned IP. No biggie in the end.

try this out to:

<Gateway>192.168.1.1</Gateway>
 <DNS1>192.168.1.1</DNS1>
 <DNS2>192.168.1.7</DNS2>

I tried entering both of these on my xbox and tried both dhcp and static for both and it still won't connect.  ARGGGGHHHHHHHH!

Anything else to try?  I hate to miss out on all of these cool features of UX but I'm starting to get a bit bummed.  sad.gif

Ok, what is the IP address of your router?  Is it 192.168.1.1 ?  The gateway address should be your router, cos that's the gateway to the net.  Are you using anything like Internet Connection Sharing on your PC?  Try to have the Gateway adress 192.168.1.100.  And is your xbox connected directly to the router?

How do I figure out the IP address of my router?  So you're saying that the gateway that shows on my ipconfig is my router IP?

Yes, I am set up for ICS.  I originally had two xboxes hooked up to my computer.  One was directly to my router and the other was to a second nic.  I've since disconnected the xbox from my second nic.  I only have the one hooked up to my router now.

When you say to try to have the gateway 192.168.1.100 do you mean on my xbox or on my computer?

Thanks for taking your time to help me iron this out.

I think that there is a problem with the DHCP routing.  I am no noob with this stuff.  The only way I can connect is to go static and put an IP on there that matches the network address of all the other machines on my network which is 192.168.1.x.  When I use DHCP, i get the ugly IP of 10.167.sumtin.sumtin.  I forget exactly.

It is possible that it could just be a glitch in my router because my brother being the ass he is spilled his coke into it and now I can no longer connect through wireless.  If anyone else is having DHCP problems with newest version of UX, please let me know so I know it's not my messed to hell router.

O, I guess it decides to work now.  Sorry bout that.

Dang, now why did you have to go and say that it works now?   tongue.gif That sounds exactly like what's going on with me.  Oh well, I'll just sit here and cross my fingers that someone has got some ideas.  Thanks for the input though.

I checked my settings at home and I have both dns servers set to 0.0.0.0 and everything connects through DHCP on two different networks.

Give that shot and let's see if we finally knipped this one in the butt.

Actually, things aren't all fixed.  After I turned my xbox off my dns addresses set themselves back automatically to a different number.  The newsfeed still works but the skins/saves won't d/l.  Everytime I go to set the dns back to 0.0.0.0 it doesn't save...different numbers are there after reboot.

I'm kinda wondering if this is a UX save glitch or something.  I'll try editing the numbers by hand and see where that gets me.

Okay, it seems as though I can no longer ftp to my xbox with this configuration.  I tried entering in my old 192.168.1.200 and the newly assigned 10.252.197.213 into flashfxp and it still won't connect.

I am still getting the newsfeed but that is all connection-wise that I can do.  I still can't d/l skins or saves or ftp.  When I look at my config.xml in the file explorer here is what I get:

Network Enable - yes - dhcp
IP 192.168.1.200
Subnet 255.255.0.0
Gateway 192.168.1.100
DNS1 0.0.0.0
DNS2 0.0.0.0

When I go into my network settings on UX it shows this:
Current IP 10.252.197.213
DNS1 192.168.1.1
DNS2 192.168.1.7

Where is it getting these two DNS numbers from if they are set as 0.0.0.0 in the config.xml?  Last night I entered the 0.0.0.0 on the settings page and was able to d/l a skin...worked great.  Now it's just not working anymore.

Sorry for being a pain with this

Anyway, look you can get this working with static OR dhcp so lets pick one and go with it instead of jumping back and forth shooting in the dark.

So lets start from your first post and answer a few questions:
1. Do you prefer to have your xbox use dhcp or static?
2. Just to confirm your xbox connects to a router, your pc connects to the same router, and that router connects to the internet via its wan port?
3. You used to have 2 nics in your pc, have since removed one, have you uninstalled ICS? Does it uninstall itself when you remove a nic it was configured on?

1. I guess I don't have a preference as long as everything works
2. That is correct.
3. The second nic is still in my computer.  I'm just not using it right now.

It's wierd.  Before I went to work yesterday I couldn't connect.  When I got home from work last night everything was working.  I didn't change any settings when I got home either.  I actually put linksbocks on last night and surfed around.  I don't understand what could have changed between now and then.
