UnleashX you've impressed the hoards again, that itself is impressive
Just found with the Video Switch, it doesn't switch back with a soft boot. Only way I can switch it back is with my memory card reset button, or of course resetting from the menu. |
No, it won't, and that's by design. Video mode switching uses Cherry's dynamic kernel patching code, so as long as the copy of the kernel is still in memory, it will stay there. The dash itself will work on NTSC/PAL so there's no need to set it to something when it can work on the current setting.
As stated in the docs, it will only set it if it's needed. So, if you have a PAL game on an NTSC set, it will be set to PAL. Doing a soft reset, or more commonly called IGR doesn't unload the kernel from the memory, so it will remain PAL. When you hit 'Y' button, it's interesting to note that your xbox will be reported as Region 4/Rest of the World/PAL system, which means, the patch is in effect. Playing PAL games from here on will not make the dash try to patch it again. However, playing NTSC games will, as it is now an incompatible game. And the process repeats.
I was actually considering a force video mode system, so the dash will set it at the beginning, but then thought of otherwise due to several reasons: 1) If the selected mode isn't compatible with your set, then you'll end up with a messed up dash. 2) If the user really wanted to always use another mode, I guess enigmah video switch or ConfigMagic is a better solution. There are some more. So, I just opted with enable/disable as it make a lot more sense to me. Set it when needed -nothing makes more sense than that.
