I have a HDTV & the standard MS High Def AV Pack.

My Xbox is a 1.5, so I have the Focus chip.

Dude if you have an HDTV set and not using it to even get 480p out of your xbox, you're missing out on half of the expereince. Gamestop sells used MS HD AV packs for $10. $20 brand new. And if you got a really nice big screen, Monster400x for $40. Check out my original reveiw in the Audio Video forum.

Have a Toshiba 50" (50HDX82) (480i/p, 720p, 1080i)

Let me know if you need another tester.   beerchug.gif

From what I understand, unless you have a plasma/lcd screen, you don't have true 720p, you have something that is upconverted....
however, if you have 1080i, it's native..
that being said, my rear projection widescreen does support all those modes...
I'm willing to test...
Running XBMC quite nicely in 1080i smile.gif

Which makes me curious as to how UnleashX will implement HDTV support. Will this new version autodetect your supported resolutions set in the MS Dash and output the highest res you have seleted? Or will you be forced to pick a resolution and be forced to use that resolution everytime your xbox boots up?

Any planned screen adjust/stretching capabilities to combat overscan like there is in the xport emus?

@-FourDoor-,
I will use the settings from MS Dash, and determine the right settings from there. But the latter isn't a bad option also. I haven't use XBMC yet, but I know, XBMP forces the settings irregardless of what you have if you selected that option. It's simply initializing the video display with the right parameter.

On screen calibration, I'm still looking into it. I got a couple of ideas that popped up yesterday and I'm going to give it a whirl today -good thing I always have my iPaq to jot it down wink.gif . Still thinking of doing it the most efficient way without doing intensive recalculation -though I could do it only once, that would be my last option.

Sweet. Just keep in mind that if you go with the latter and force the xbox to boot to the selected res everytime the dash boots up, you might end up with users whining and bitching back at you because all they now see on their TV is a black screen or garbled up images because:

1. They selected a resolution that their TV doesnt support, like 720p for most HDTV users
2. They brought their xbox over to their friends house and forgot to change the setting back to 480i cuz their friend doesnt have an HDTV
3. They don't even have an HDTV but thought it would be cool to see what unleashX looked like forced to HDTV resolutions on their old SD set.  laugh.gif

Just bringing up points as to why I think XPort never allowed forced resolution settings on startup for his emulators. I would actually prefer the former and let unleashX detect available settings from the MS dash.

One safety/feature request I'd like to see is a 480i safemode boot option where you hold certain triggers or button bombos on bootup to force unleashx to 480i. It could solve a lot of headaches with some of the scenarious pointed out above or if for some weird reason unleashx decides to pick a resolution that your TV doesnt support.

just a my .02cents...

AFAIK the video encoder will not allow 480p or above unless you have the HD pack plugged in (See making your own HD pack for info on how it works) . If you use any other pack it will use standard 480i output....

That being said you can still have a problem if you take it over to someones house that also uses the HD pack and it to a res that they dont support. But then you could always use the standard pack in a pinch

@-FourDoor-
That's exactly my thought -some people will find it easier to put the blame on me than finding out what they did wrong.

And yeah, I like the 480i safeboot mode. This way they can still use the dash even if something like the above happens to them. Nice to know the dash still work and the stock MS dash doesn't, isn't it? biggrin.gif heh, I first need to know how it will look like on 720p/1080i. Just an FYI to everyone, 480p IS supported.
