I've noticed a bit of a problem with the ftp server - but the behaviour depends on the ftp client used. Using FlashFXP on my PC is fine, but when I use Fetch (OSXO or a CLI ftp client I get the following:
> ftp xbox
Connected to xbox.
220 XBOX FTP ready.
Name (xbox:xbox): xbox

230 Welcome to XBOX FTP Server
Remote system type is UnleashX.

basically, the server keeps sending volume size info back to the client, confusing the heck out of it!
It doesn't happen if you go to a directory deeper than the C/D/E/F/X/Y/Z level.
