if i update the skin in the future, what should i do to update it on allxboxskins?  should i just FTP it and you'll grab it from there or is there an automated way, etc?

yes, just ftp it up and I will get it updated.   Its always better to send me an email letting me know you did so.   I dont constantly monitor the ftp uploads, and ive been a little slack on the forums till recently.

I just increased the bitrate of the background video and reencoded it in Wnidows Media Encoder 7.  For some reason, I can't seem to get rid of the pixelation... maybe it's the codec.  Does anyone know of any other codecs that I can use in a WMV file on the xbox?  Does anyone know how to get rid of the pixelation?

What are you using to encode?

Try installing the WMV8Utils to create the settings you want , I used 640x480 760kbps.  Save the setting and open in using stoik. i always did my videos (the latest ones) that way and it looks at lot better than the wmv7 codec did.

Btw, does anyone know what the difference between WMV and XMV files are?

yeah .wmv is the window media format...You know that obviously...

whereas .xmv is a video format made specially for the xbox, and it looks very nice, but there are no encoders you can use to make a file that is .xmv and MXM does not YET support .xmv

XMV stands for xbox media video.
Actually there is a xmv encoder out there, Because it was in the XDK but it was released by itself as unleash x started supporting xmv's so there was more demand for it.
So yes you can convert to xmv.

(BTW this is totally meant to sound helpfull not insultfull wink.gif

Yes I did not mention that as I figured it was obvious...

Actually that converter was released by UnleashX and it converts .wmv files to .xmv, so you cannot "bump up" the quality by encoding a lower quality file to .xmv, but if you were to save the .wmv file as a very high rate file then encode it with the .xmv converter it may turn out good...

I should have been more clear with what I was saying and mentioned the .xmv converter tool UnleashX released in my original post but, hindsight is always 20/20

I knew that but if you were posting what wmv stood for I thought i should post what xmv stood for.

It makes no sense for a converted file to have better quality than the original file.  Therefore WMV -> XMV will probably keep quality constant, if not reduce it.

boomboom: What format is your original video in?  If you could send it to me on irc or something, I could play around with the conversion.

well in theory true. However if he makes it in WMV9 then converts to xmv that is better than WMV8.

What's an uncompressed wmv anyway?

But if you want, send it to me on irc (efnet, #mxm) and I'll have a look at it.
