Yeah, moved the file and forgot to update it.  Now it should work fine.

There's also an "official page" for the skinner now.  Look in my sig for it

Did you mean this doc by perhaps?

http://www.writersga...ingOverview.doc

Is there a different one out there? Sorry to sound sarcastic but, I'm a total moron when it comes to skinning so if you wouldn't mind sharing as much detail in your replies, that would help a lot.

PS: Thanks for this nifty piece of software, it is really cool and I can't wait to use it in full force  biggrin.gif  beerchug.gif

Sorry if it's a bit lacking.... that's my fault  huh.gif

The best teacher is to look at the XML files, and maybe play with the skinner to see what happens as you add elements.

I'd love for somebody to write a nice Skinning Guide, as I just don't have the time (I can answer questions, though). MXM really needs one of those 1000 page books you buy at Borders... "MXM reference for Dummies"  tongue.gif  with sections for "pros" and "skinners" - Seems daunting, but it's really not.

Yes, that IS the document I was referring to.

I think it explains stuff pretty well; I used that as the main reference to create MXM skinner.

I guess that is the problem.  It's better used as reference rather than a tutorial, so we need someone with time to convert it to a newbie-friendly format, and update regularly.

As for conditionals, sorry for not explaining before
If you add the "Conditional" tag to the layoutElement (or select a conditional from the drop-down menu in MXM Skinner), the item will only be displayed if the condition is true.
(Note: I could never get the "Submenu" conditional to work)

And you can interpret this post as an invitation for someone to work on the skinning guide biggrin.gif

I'm almost done with Skinner v5
Done:
-Support for different screens
-Allow editing after creation of element - was harder than I thought!
-Locking Elements (like backgrounds) while designing to avoid screwups biggrin.gif
-Option to remove the big yellow box while drawing elements (but the object being drawn blinks like crazy if you do)
-Inserted menus for better organization
-Bold modifier button captions if they exist, for the selected element

The re-editing of elements has created quite a few bugs, and I'm still working on those.

I also wrote a step-by-step tutorial on how to make a decent skin using Skinner.  I'll release it with the program.
If anyone wants any features added (besides PNG support), post here.

This (or v6, if enough stuff is wanted) will probably be the last version of skinner that I work on.

Generating XPRs (For fonts) is not currently possible (Unless someone can lend me a hand running fontbundle exe's from within VB)

Can you please add a more elaborate color picker?

Its really difficult to visualize the color/result using a text value for the alpha.

I currently use a small one I made in vb.net that gives the exact color based on what is chosen from a color picker dialog box in combination with a 0-100 slide for the alpha.  (even copies it to the clipboard automatically for pasting.)  Letting you see the results immediately.

here is a pic and the small (17kb) program in case you have .net framework installed, or if anyone wants to use it for some reason.

Program Here( .net framework must be installed, sorry.  If you get an error, you dont have it installed)

Wohoo!  jester.gif

After about a month looking for a control that would do this
After about a few weeks thinking of ideas and lookin for libraries to make my own control
After about half an hour's worth of setting weird properties (autoredraw, windowless, clipbehaviour, etc) of the control i made (to display pngs; using the pnglib dll)

I finally got a png to display transparently over any skin element . laugh.gif

The cool thing is; it's actually movable and stuff while still holding its transparency.  This is something I've never seen in VB.  AND IT DOESN'T BLINK!!! AT ALL!!! ANYTHING!!!

Guess PNG support is coming soon  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

Edit: Yeah; this should make transparency for boxes possible too.  So the color picker can probably show the transprency in real time (nifty app, koldfuzion, btw)

when can we expect a release of v5?

the color picker request wasnt for the display in the layout as much as it was the actual picking of the color during element setup, kinda like seeing the result (actual color with alpha) before hitting OK during setup for that element.

laugh.gif is the best answer.  I'm currently a little busy with university stuff.  Had a java midterm yesterday.  However, if you want the current WIP, pm me.  Its kinda buggy though.
