Mxm Skinner V2
« on: August 10, 2003, 11:04:00 PM »

I just finished work on a new version of the skinning program.  It's a WYSIWYG (almost) program, done in VB

This version now supports almost all basic features, and can generate complete XMLs

Those new to skinning can use the program to make their own skins
It can also be helpful to experienced skinners

Supported:
-Box elements (fill color, border color)
-Line Elements (color)
-Image Elements (pictures or video)
*-Text Elements (custom text and preset text)
*-Game List (MXM Menu Elements)
*-Generating complete XML files (including resources etc)

*New this release

Have a go, and tell me what you think.  I'm open to suggestions on how to improve functionality/user friendliness

*Download removed.  Check out V5 in the pinned thread.

Currently, the program can't load XML files.  I'm looking for someone who could help me with the parser biggrin.gif, or point me towards an open-source VB XML parser

Thanks

This is great!  biggrin.gif
I'm in the middle of my first skin...I just have one question!
Is there anyway you could get the Game Description to be set separately to the Game List? E.G. add game description into the Text option so we can position it anywhere?
Edit:
Been using this for a while now and i have one other request!
Is it possible to set a wmv as background? Because otherwise it is super hard to get the layour right!
T.I.A
Edit 2:
Is it also possible to add a start up video?

this prog is damn impressive and will help lots of skinners.

REQUESTS: when an object is selected, please make it so it doesnt turn into a totally opaque yellow box, a dotted outline would be sufficient.
Intro/outro video's

of course the other stuff you said are not supported would be nice as well as the xml parser you spoke of.

Once more though, this program is already incredibly usefull and I thank you for making it.  Hope it becomes #1mxm skinning tool  as it already is doing extremely well

This is possible.  Make a Game List, with the "Show Game Description" box UNchecked.  Then click the "Text" option, select "CGDescr" from the dropdown box and make the textbox.
For descriptions of the predefined text entries, look at the MXM skinning overview document, included with MXM.

Well, even a "background" is technically an "Image" element.  Therefore, you can just select a video as a resource and draw a big one in the drawing area.

This is not currently possible.
MXM supports four kinds of screens.  The Menu screen, the Title screen, the Loading screen and the ScreenSaver screen.
Right now you can only edit the Menu screen.

In a future version I will try to include support for all screens

QUOTE

Well, technically you cannot edit pictures at all, but the program cannot load/display PNG images

The opaque yellow box was added to hide VB's awful blinking (looks quite ugly)when resizing/creating elements.
As for the intro/outro vids, they will be possible as soon as i add support for the other screens (discussed above)

As for the unsupported stuff, anyone with ideas on how to incorporate those in Visual Basic is welcome to speak of their ideas.

And thanks jinx_removing for pointing out the parser; I will try to incorporate it into the program, but I think it will take a while to get loading skins working.

I don't exactly understand your problem.  Please elaborate a little more.

Anyway, use WinRAR (latest version preferably).  It should extract two files: skinner.exe and readme.txt

Btw, I forgot to include this in the readme: IMPORTANT: Make sure you have Visual Basic 6 runtime files installed

Edit: (MS website for download)

Well, the component is the common dialog control (used for: open file, pick color, save file, etc dialog boxes)

It should be included with the Visual Basic runtime files

Try resinstalling the runtime files to fix the error

Thats what i was meaning. At the moment i have to do that however when you do that first there is then no way whatso ever of adding anything else to the skin as when you try to add a box or text or whatever it simply selects the Video instead.
Thanks for the description tip tho!

The program will be able to load skins generated by it.

Other skins made using notepad and the like are not fully supported, but the program can still load most of the stuff
