Wow... One of the better skins out for MxM.

Hopfully the other skinners will let you post it as long as they get credit.

Maybe you should just add a readme.txt file to the zip file.

Inside give them credit...but do not wait for "permission" to use.

I dont think anyone into MXM skinnning is that-hard-up and I am sure it would be fine for them....if not, then they need to copy one of MS licensing agreements and add it to the skin.

Release the monster and let it live!!

I think the overlay image, is slightly miss-aligned.  You can see a 1 pixel gap looking thing.

I see that too.

i just noticed the game icon on the second image...  maybe you could do a "fire breathing" DDS overlay over top of the icon?

Ohh, that would look nice, it would help tie the icon into the rest of the skin.

I know.  I was up until 2am PST trying to get it right.  No matter how much I mess with it it’s always off.  I’m doing all the image manipulation with Paint Shop Pro v8 if anyone has any pointers.

Well, what if you instead of having a small square overlay.  Why not make the entire BG image that over lay, with just a small cutout in the middle for the video.  And in the XML, move the video to the top so it's displayed first, thenthe BG image is over that.  That should remove the gap.  You could PM or IM me if you want, and I could help ya.

Is that fire animated?  That would be awesome if it was.

Nope, sorry I'm not that good.  I was thinking if I were to remove the fire from the menuback.png and make it a semi-transparent overlay I can use a moving water movie clip under it to make it look like rolling fire.  The problem with that as I see it is the thumbnail image would still sit on top as a square.  If I were to add another overlay to mask the thumbnail it would also mask the water movie.

The concept from bottom to top:
menuback.png -> water.wmv - > semi_fire_overlay.png -> mxm_thumb.png -> solid_fire_overlay.png

Maybe I’ll just move the thumbnail under the clock in another box and do the animated fire.   We’ll see.

One of the things I am SURE can be done, with the right code, of course, is something that will allow me to offer "Alpha Masks" for images - a DDS or PNG file that will provide a secondary alpha mask to be applied to the image when displayed.

That would allow you to do a multi-levelled alpha channel mask of any preview (even videos) and mesh perfectly with video.

This will require work on my part, though... the idea is in my head, and requires some fancy DirectX footwork to make happen, though.
