Skin Confusion
« on: July 25, 2003, 02:34:00 PM »

Okay, I installed MXM the easy way...just using the .xbe and letting it autoconfig.

Then I downloaded the starwars skin from xbins and created a folder on my E drive named "MXMSkins" and placed the "STARWARS" folder (containing the unrared contents) inside.

Then I made my painfully simple mxm.xml:

<Config>
<Main>
 <SkinsPath>E:MXMSkins</SkinsPath>
 </Main>
 </Config>

I've read post after post and don't understand what the problem is here.  I re-cached mxm and rebooted and still get only the default skins.  The skin folder DOES have the file MXM_Skin.xml.

Sorry to bug with an easy problem...I'm just missing something here.

The MXM_Skin.xml file is for the SKIN....

<SkinsPath>E:\MXMSkins</SkinsPath> tells MXM where to find ALL of the skins... they each get THEIR OWN DIRECTORIES within the SkinsPath folder.

E:\MXMSkins\Devoid
E:\MXMSkins\Advantage
E:\MXMSkins\ItsAboutChoice

and so forth.

Thanks for responding...that is what I have though.

"E:MXMSkinsSTARWARS"

The MXM_Skin.xml is located IN my Starwars folder...no place else.

Well, the Star Wars skin is rather ancient.... I haven't tested it in ages.

It's an "old format" skin, and I may not be supporting it anymore.

Okay, assuming that the SW skin wasn't supported anymore I tried the LCars skin...same thing.  I reset the cache and rebooted after adding the LCars folder to my e:MXMSkins folder.  I still only get the default skins.

Is there any other info you need for me to post to help iron this out?  Oh BTW, I've got the 09n2 version.

Thanks again

Those skins should be re-done anyway. Star Wars was a quickie, LCARS was a bit better, but the WideScreen one looks much better (fully animated), even on 4:3 screens.

go to http://allxboxskins/skins

Thanks, I'll try one from allxboxskins.

Oh, BTW...I have MXM installed on F drive under Apps for now...if that makes any difference.

Try using F:\mxmskins as the folder then.. maybe there is an issue of going across drives...but i doubt it.

triple check all the spelling of the xml and make sure you dont have any erronous tags... hell.. post it so i can be check by BJ's trained experts.

There has to be 'something' causeing it not to work.. and it is going to be a simple error.

My friend had a problem with games not showing up on the E drive... and it was because his autosearch menu ITEM entry started with a </Item>  and ended with an </Item>    <-- see the problem? so look very close.

cool.gif

I think I'm now ready to make this my default and move evox into the apps folder.  tongue.gif   This program kicks ass.  Can I simply rename my default.xbe on my C drive to make it my default?  Guess I need to check into that later.

Thanks again for such an awesome proggy.

(p.s.  Why is it that BJ's Luigi/Ron Jeremy avatar gives me the creeps?  laugh.gif )
