I havent done it yet myself.  But have been looking at doing it also.

The timers are there ... but i think "triggers" might be helpful..but we dont have them

Something like  onmenuup, onmenudown

or

triggers from a specific menu item to perform sequenced "events"  <--would need to be called in the skin though... so i dunno about that one. It would have to be based on the depth of the menu/submenu probably.

since the apps/games/dashboard videos are called from the media entry in the menu.xml.. i think we are out of luck.. otherwise you could just create a very good video loop for each catagory that returned to the point of origin so it would appear to be a single video..etc.   but.. the user would have to set it up in themenu.xml... you couldnt create it in the skin itself.

Well, just goes to show there's always going to be people pushing the limits.... wink.gif

Sounds like I'm going to have to give more thought to some of this, but really, once the BASIC stuff is in, you should be able to script these sorts of things. The operation you describe is pretty complex, and demands some awareness of the current menu by name and such.

I'll probably support events like menu item changes and such, where you'll be able to key in on these things and change screen elements on the fly.

Hey BJ, do you have an idea on what version you are planning on adding the basic functionality?

Hard to tell yet... definitely before 1.0

I have the BASIC interpreter running on a testbed, but I want to greatly expand on it before invcorporating it into MXM.

Before I get there I will be adding the System UI; that will enable some limited editing of action scripts, as well. The whole thing will tie into the ability to launch mini-programs to do things like installations, clean up, generate 3-D objects (3-handed clock has been mentioned) for display.

In the meantime, I will be adding some conditionals, and maybe I can add some functionality in there for what you need (Conditionals and activate/deactivate elements in the layout).
