Good question.... WMV is supposed to support transparency (haven't had time to play with it yet), so I don't see why it wouldn't support 5.1 sound.

I'll get around to supporting it if there's something I should be doing, as I will for HDTV support.

try to convert the file with wm8 encoder, It's windows official but command line, if its possible that will be the prog that will allow it though.

ONLY V9 of windows media supports 5.1.

If you are only able to get stereo audio, see if your receiver has a "Pro Logic II Movie" setting. On my receiver, it makes it sound very close to true 5.1 audio.
