Thanks for creating a skin (and making MXM even greater as it is)   laugh.gif

Your skin certainly looks different from the rest. You really did a great job on the 'background image'. Although I love the layout, I'm not going to use it. I prefer to have a large list of games that I can select. So if you could just make the fontsize of the selectable game a bit smaller (box top-left), you might make a list of 4 or 5 titles  (just an idea)...

[ERROR]  You made an 'error' by asking for <preview>  instead of <media>. This way the regular naming (the 'EntryNaming') won't be the same as with other skins. An you can use the thumbnail option, instead of the <logo> entry. Every game has it's own official logo stored with the savegames. If you use the Thumbnail option it all goes automaticly, instead of requiring to upload the same icons and editing the MXM_entry.xml file by hand.

You made a really clear package by the way. Great idea to make a dummy MXM_entry.xml file. Perhaps an idea for all other skinners (and BenJeremy) to include also? The readme file is also excellent...

Thanks.

Thats not an error. I used other naming for these 2 things so its easier to identify the changes from the other skins, where only one media is present. I knew that MXM can grab the thumbnail from the xbe, i saw it in the readme, but maybe someone wants to make his own, maybe a game's thumbnail is lame; lol

I thought dummy entry and mxm xml files are great, cause many inexperienced with html and xml and ini style editing find it hard.

As for the size of the fonts, thats no problem. The problem is that the particular font is not much readable when smaller. Unless you have a big tv of course. If you want to try another version with smaller menu font check your pm (if there is one here). I have the smaller font right here, and i could send it your way if you wish to try.

If someone uploaded a previewvideo to a gamefolder, and names it MXM_SS.wmv, than he don't need to make a MXM_entry.xml document, coz MXM automatically knows (while autosorting) that MXM_SS.wmv will be linked to the <media> string.

Your skin is looking for the <preview> entry. And since that's not a basic entry, everyone that wants to have a previewvideo in your skin, needs to make MXM_entry.xml documents for every file (while no other skin requires that)....

I don't personally don't care, coz I just edit your MXM_skin.xml instead. But I think that other, "less experienced" users don't know that....

btw.. thanks for the smaller font, I'll try that one later today biggrin.gif

I am having problems installing this skin!!

Please can someone tell me where all the files should be!!
Do I have to put the Geoloader files into folders (ie font, media) or do I just delete Newdefault and replace it with the Geoloader folder??

At the moment all I get is a black screen with no skins!!!  But I know it is running because I can press start and It loads up Boxplorer!!!

Any help would be great!!

Thanks

Geoloader can get it's own folder.

Every time MXM boot it looks in the IMMEDIATE subdirectories from where it's run and looks for MXM_Skin.xml files - if you do not set the <LoadSkin> tag in your MXM.xml file to point to a specific skin, it will randomly pick one of the available skins on start up.

Then I delete the folder NewDefault from MXM on my xbox
Then I ftp over Geoloader with 11 files in it,  no folders (this is the folder that contains the skin)
Then I put the  MXM.xml into my MXM root dir

And that is it!!! What else do I need to do??  Do I need to edit one of the xml files to tell it where the skin is???

Please please please someone tell me what to do or email me there MXM folder with it already working on!!

You didn't need to delete the "NewDefault" (in fact, I recommend you don't until you get things set)

You should have something "like" this:

E:\MXM <- Contains the MXM.xml file, default.xbe, etc...

E:\MXM\GeoLoader <- Contains theGeoLoader's MXM_Skin.xml file, and whatever files, subdirectories the skin needs

You shouldn't have to touch the NewDefault, until you get things set.

Ben, if you have a chance!! See if you can get it to work??

That's probably fine.

So long as the skin itself is in a folder

MXM looks in each folder directly below it to find the config file for each skin, and then loads resources relative to that location. The skin designer decides if they want to put things in subfolders below that...

When you un-archive it, there's a folder called  "geoloader" just copy the entire folder into your MXM directory - it should work just fine.

E:\MXM

E:\MXM\geoloader\
E:\MXM\geoloader\MXM_Skin.xml
E:\MXM\geoloader\Xbox.xbr
E:\MXM\geoloader\titlebg.png
E:\MXM\geoloader\....and so on...

Remove the LoadSkins tag, if there's one, in your MXM.xml file.

Try a couple reboots until the new one comes up, to make sure it works.
