Generator Skin V2.0
« on: May 06, 2003, 07:04:00 PM »

There have been issues with running the old Generator skin v1.02 in compatibility mode with MXM versions .9i and on.  To eliminate these issues, the XML has been redone to work well with these latest MXM versions for those who still want to use this skin.  Not a MAJOR update, but a needed one, I guess.  As always, this skin puts emphasis on the graphical side using a simple menu interface.

Will these skins work for the Multigame discs too or just MXM as a dashboard?

Thanks

Might we get a direct link to the XML, for those already with the rest of the files? Or will it include a few more goodies?  huh.gif

Still, might be worthwhile to package an 'updater' that upgrades the previous package to 0.9k goodness?

That is a very good suggestion and would cut down the size considereably.  You are correct, however, in that it does include a few more goodies such as new fonts and updated media.  But it is still an option that I will consider.  Thanks.

I'm pretty certain Generator skin will work with multigame discs.  There is a minor issue though.  The new cyclic strings on the lower left reflect information MXM would gather running off the HD or as a dash.. eg IP, HD Free Space, etc.  I am not sure if this information will still be available running off disc (BJ?). An easy fix on my part would be to include two folders with different skin XML configs the user can choose.  One to work off the HD using the current strings, another to work off a disc with different strings such as disc title, disc description, etc.  That will be easy to do before release time, thanks for bringing it up.

Vegas Video 4 by Sonic Foundry has amazing editing and compositing capabilities.  It also encodes straight to WMV8.

Info strings work in whatever "mode" MXM is operating in.

Okay, I'll still make separate XMLs though, because when running from the HD and no disc title or description is used, there will be gaps in the string cycle.  But it'll be easy to choose which XML to use.

I think the big question regarding the background videos is where, exactly, do you find abstract video like that?

Oh.. hahah is that what he meant?  Well, artbeats has tons of abstract movies like that.

Yeah dude!  MXM is major fun.  I missed out on all the .9i action bc I was out of town, but it's good to be back with .9k and .9l.

A couple of requests..
1. For your <MXMVersion> string, how about making it say "MXM Version .9k beta" instead of just ".9k beta".

2. I tried using <VideoStandard> and all i got was a bunch of numbers.. like 0014001 or something.

3. How about a <Bios> string?  Just put all the checksums in a separate file.

Thanks!

Perhaps I should allow you to string together values in the node? Then you could combine constants with dynamic strings.

biggrin.gif   Yes yes!  That'd be EXCELLENT!

Don't know the exact tracknames because my mp3 cds have all the filenames messed up  huh.gif  .. but I know for sure that Generator features a few songs from Microcosm, Jega, and Konflict.  biggrin.gif
