No, all of them play movies. Generator is a skin that uses movies in the background, for a trippy look.

The upcoming skin (released with "K") will also make extensive use of video backgrounds.

It's in the user's guide. The primary method is to create or copy a valid WM8 file into the game directory and name it MXM_SS.wmv, though there are also ways to specify the location, if they are stored elsewhere or under a different name.

It depends. The requirement is Windows Media 8 encoded video (WMV) with an audio channel (must have audio, even if it's silent). This is because it's the video format supported by the XDK libraries I use.

Take a look at my signature.... there are tutorials there for converting MOV to WMV.
