Mxm Formating Of A Drive....
« on: March 03, 2004, 02:00:00 AM »

Formatting should only take a minute or two at most.

Sounds like something odd happened.

The disc prep was tested with a 180GB HD - then with a 120GB drive.

I had similar problem formating a 160GB (also a Maxtor) HD I couldn't get it to format with MXM or Evox.  MXM froze and Evox gave me an error.

There is a tut on formating the HDD through FTP RAW commands on X-S tut page under Evox.  It worked great.   Although, this tut is for Evox.

BJ could you comment if this could work with MXM?

Yes.... with FlashFXP, just enter a "Raw command" (Ctrl+R) and type:

SITE ALLOWFORMAT 1

followed by the format you wish to perform:

SITE FORMAT F:

The "SITE" needs to be in there, as these commands are extensions to the FTP command set. The ALLOWFORMAT 1 is intended to protect you from accidentally formatting your system. It only needs to be entered once after MXM is up (globally allows formatting)

ACtually I have noticed while MXM is prepping a drive you need to press the buttons a few times to get it to do stuff sometimes, its weird I know, but I have thought a few times the HD_prep had frozen, but then simply pressed the A button a couple times and it carried on with its business...

Or as BJ said once MXM is up and running, just FTP the XBOX and do the FLashFXP commands to quickly format drives....

Anyway, flashed bios, used evox like the tut said to format...  Copied back over my BACKUP drives...

And, it's all good now... 250Gb free on F:, MXM loading on boot, even got the little tivo skin on... (heh, showed my little bro, got another MXM convert... call us simple but animated backgournds on skins is ground enough!)

So I have no idea what MXM was doing, and it may have worked had I flashed my BIOS properly before hand.... But it's all working now...  And did I mention I'm very happy right now?

From your user name I'm guessing that's not a typo.
