I'm sure this (and other dash comparisons) have been done a million times before, but here's my 2p anyway...

If you want a basic, no frills dash that you can use to quickly select whatever game or app you want, you can't go wrong with EvoX.

If you want something a little special - something highly customiseable with as many bells and whistles as you'd like, MXM is the way to go.

(In fact, I'm spending more time on MXM than I am my games right now... once I get everything the way I want it - which will probably mean making 3-4 skins - my Xbox will be complete).

I agree with 49er.   I modded my xbox originally just as an experiment, because I could and I wanted all my games stored inside, if thats all you want evox is great.  But then i discovered i could do more than just play games with my xbox.  then i discovered MXM and discovered not only could i do all these things but i could make the xbox look cool at the same time.  

If you want an xbox that will make your friends with unmodded xboxs jealous, install MXM!!  I highly recommend choosing a skin with intro and outro videos.

PS - I only had evox a couple days before discovering mxm, so if your just starting to learn this stuff, mxm is not that difficult to adapt to.

EvoX is a nice dash with alot of features and the same goes for MXM.You should try both and see which one better fits your needs. MXM is nice since you can add video previews and other types of media to your selection menu, the skins also are great.I personally use EvoX but keep MXM selectable just in case I decide to use it.

I would load evox and then put mxm in a folder that evox can load.  this way you get used to both and then can decide to keep one you like better.

Well since you sound like you've never ran an alternate dash, don't take that the wrong way, but here's what I did.  Start with Evox.  It's real easy to setup and it's a great beginner dash.  It'll do everything you need to do until you get into your xbox a bit more.  Once you get a bit more comfortable and familarized with dashs and what not, download mxm, configure it and run it from evox.  If you like what you see, and most likely you will, you can just remove evox and run mxm as your main dash.

you should definitely start out with EvolutionX.  when you feel real comfortable with it, try MXM as something you can launch from EvolutionX.  you do have to play with MXM a bit to get the things out of it that EvolutionX doesn't have.  what MXM has to offer that EvolutionX does not is the following:

1.  as you browse through your menu, you can set it up to show screenshots or preview videos of whatever is currently selected in the menu
2.  you can have whatever background music you want playing while MXM is up and running and you are wacking    etc.
3.  MXM has a scripting language and community of scripters.  The best thing about this is that there is a script that will let you 'backup' games to your hard-drive within MXM.  It will create/name the directory it copies the game to according to the name of the game.  meanwhile, your favorite background music is playing all the while you are wacking
4.  MXM will allow you to set up help screens/vids for each item in your menu.  To me, these 'help screens' are a great place to store cheat codes and important but often forgot info from game manuals.

The intro and outro videos of MXM play when ever MXM is loading/unloading itself and they are cool and great for wacking , but after awhile, they're just a waste of time.  Don't get the wrong idea though.  MXM may run and boot a little slower than EvolutionX because of all it's multimedia and wacking features, but MXM is NOT slow!

MXM offers everything that EvolutionX has, plus multimedia and wacking features mentioned above.  Although I must admit, I still use EvolutionX to flash my bios because, to me, there's less chance of something going wrong because there are less bells and whistles, etc.  and also because EvolutionX has been around and flashing bios longer than MXM has...so to me it is the experienced, professional bios-flasher, HDD installer, and boot-disk util

Even if you use MXM as your default dash as I do and recommend, I would never get rid of EvolutionX.  To me, EvolutionX is like DOS and MXM is like Windows.

P.S.  Please realize that the 'wacking' stuff is a joke.  The dude who first mentioned that in this thread is a 'wacked-out' pervert  but, hey, different 'strokes' for different folks

Most of the time you will want to just load a game or util off your HD and Evox will be MUCH better and quicker for this (MXM to much fussing about to get reliable) MXM looks good to show your friends but not much use to you when you want fast access to your stuff when no ones looking!!!. ok ive had a modded xbox with evox on it like 3 months ago, and i sold it, now im buying it bak  and i wnt sumthing new and exciting, the 1 thing that i like bout mxm is becuase it has a password lock i think as ppl say, and u can lock sum files which i need tbh, im a little behind the xbox moddin scene since i sold my box so im outdated need to catch up with the latest stuff

Hmmm... you've taken what I said way out of context.    

I finished the sentence "right now..." because I'm new to MXM and I'm still realising its potential. I've nearly finished my skin, including some actionscripts (copy dvd game to HD, etc) and when it's done, I'll have the complete package. I don't see myself substituting MXM for games or indeed my social life!

EvoX doesn't play soundtracks and it takes maybe 3 seconds more to load MXM.
