You just need the drivers (available at Xbox-Scene under "Tools").

et00l! I have been looking everywhere for someone who too had an XBOX to USB converter and played GTA : Vice City on their PC.

here is my question:

When I play GTA VC with my xbox pad, everything works fine (all buttons, etc) ... however:

I too noticed that stick doesn't work when driving... but it actually does...it works as Directional only. You need to specify a button for GAS and REVERSE. but you can still use it to steer.

When I play, the cameras are in a constant SPINNING motion. The Left and Right triggers and counter-act it, but when not being pressed, the cameras spin making the game unplayable.

My question is this:  How do I go about getting around this???

Is it possible, or is it the drivers I am using?

I've tried two different sets, and it happens with each.

PS
I bought my converter from www.play-asia.com they also provided the XID drivers.

I am finding out that installing the xbox controller driver on my PC is very confusing and complicated. I have Xp and would like to use my controller "S" with  my Operation Flashpoint games.  Is there anybody who knows how to install the driver and can give me a detailed walkthrough on the process.  Please be very specific and detailed because I get confused easily.   Thanks.

Vice City works fine with the XCTRL drivers, however it does spin with the others....

Aahhhh!! I found the problem!!

Conflicting Drivers!

When trying the XCTRL, apparently the older drivers were still being pulled from their prior location.  I just changed their location, and installed the XCTRL (for real this time) and it works like a dream.

Anyone know how to get the Right ANALOG Stick to work as CAMERA CONTROL for GTA Vice City using the XCTRL drivers????

Why didn't you buy your adapter from me !  wink.gif

Haha ... I shoulda known... I was just too lazy to build my own.. otherwise I would have bought it from you, no doubt. I just did a search, and google returned Play-Asia.com ... heh. Too bad they provide drivers that don't WORK...

Hmm...well apparently when attempting to calibrate my control, I still am not able to get the correct control panel for XCTRL... it's all because of existing installations of older drivers, etc....

someone help so that the XCTRL drivers come up...

I know it sounds weird, but i installed drivers called "XID.SYS" prior to XCTRL...then, i removed them. Ever since I tried to install XCTRL, however, it asks for XID.SYS... so FINALLY, I just renamed Xctrl.sys to Xid.sys and it worked fine....however, i get XID.SYS control panel...

how can I successfully install this controller, w/o having my OS ask for the PRIOR drivers???

the easiest way for me to install the xctrl drivers after already installing the xid drivers was to system restore my computer to an earlier point before i installed those drivers.

Ok, somehow i think it's still using the XID drivers at the same time, or something like that.  When I go into PJ64, it thinks that the D pad is holding up and left all the time.  But in the XCtrl settings, it's fine... is there any way to make absolute sure the old driver is purged?

I figured out the problem and thought others might have the same problem... as far as I can tell, the calibration settings for the controller were still saved from the XID driver.  The XCtrl driver has no way of calibrating the joystick, so it kept the previous setup.  After hours of hacking around in the registry, I finally found the correct key to delete.  I did a search for the following value in the registry (the ID for an Xbox controller):  45E&PID_0202  to get the calibration settings for the driver.  Had the XCtrl driver supported calibration, I dont believe I would have had this problem.

As with all registry modification, be sure to backup your registry before tinkering.  I'm not responsible for you breaking your computer.
