So here is my question... how difficult would it be to add something similar to this to the system utils menu in lattest releases?  Perhaps a script that copies the file in a similar way, or one that just creates and deletes the file as needed?

You will be able to do this soon. Not sure exactly when the functionality will be there, but within the next lettered version or so.
