Thanks dude   biggrin.gif

I've paused uploading all my movies to the newsgroups, so I can finish the requested movies to Owald's server.

After I've finished with this, ánd posting to the newsgroups, I'll post ALL my movies to Oswald's server (if that's allright with Oswald   wink.gif)...

absolutely.  just to remind everyone what I do is, about once a day I check all of the user folders (at the link below) and add whatever is there to the main collection here

So, if the users want to post a link they can (http://www.anotheruselesswebsite.com/users/) and all of the files will still be accessible in the main collection.

Since I have both NTSC as PAL games, I request to have a <video> line in the mxm_entry.xml. This way you can insert if a game is a pal or a ntsc version. Skins could use this info to show it as extra information.

Not all games work in other videomodes. Dakar2 for example is a pal game, and won't start when the xbox is in the ntsc videomode. So you need to put it in the pal-mode (with the enigmah switch), before it can be started.

I've run into a tonne of PAL/NTSC probs in games.

I'm constantly changing video modes because some PAL games don't like NTSC and some NTSC games don't like PAL.
can be a real pain it the butt and i'm all for making it simpler (more a luxury than anything).

about defrag... one of my buddies says the xbox HDD can be fragmented to all buggery, is this true?
is there a defrag app around or is it just an ava thing? (I really don't want another dash for this)

thanks

The video tag will be in.... but I will force the user to activate the option by telling the prefs menu they have a multi-standard TV. This should prevent accidental video switches from screwing up their TVs.

As for Defrag, I realize peopel would want this as part of their dashboard, but it's a bad idea, IMHO.

Why? Because the dashboard is busy doing a lot of things, and has a lot of files open. You'd have to shut down FTP and a lot of other things while this was done.

Really, it's better as a stand-alone application.

If I had the time, I have an idea for a kick ass, very fast defragger, maybe after I get MXM 1.0 done I can visit that. It's an idea I've been kicking around for quite some time, and I'm absolutely surprised none of the current crop of PC Defraggers do the job using the method I thought of. :::shrugs:::

What would the defrag do? Since I have a few games that freezes in some places. For example Gotham Racing and SoF2. Do you think a defrag would solve those problems?

The games re downloaded from the internet and are not nuked or anything so I guess it's my box that is wrong or bad or something. I have also had a couple of files that werent able to transfer from the box to pc. They might have been corrupt or something..

Well, a defrag would first perform a disk scan and correct errors... then it would proceed to calculate (my verison) the desired end positions of the sectors on a partition. It would then move ALL of the sectors possible to free sectors, preferably to those locations already calculated, otherwise, misplaced sectors to unused free slots, go back, hit the FATX tables, then begin the process again of shuffling the sectors until they all end up where they belong.

With a drive having a bit of free space, this process would take two or three passes, with tighter space, more.... but no sector/cluster would be moved more than twice.

Current defraggers can end up moving the same cluster dozens of times. This is kind of stupid, and the final location is often not really particularly optomized. I've never really been impressed with modern defraggers.

hows about you make a 'light' version of MXM JUST for dvd's?
E.G it doesn't display any info...just shows the game and a video of it without space or stuff on Hard drive...basically like the new retail xbox demo dvds as i think this might make the loading on them a little quicker?
