Can you use a .gif instead of a .jpg on a skin?  I heard you can put movies into them as well, how?

I originally thought there was GIF support in the XDK Texture loading routines, but either it was removed, or was never actually there (doco seems to have changed?)

Anyway, GIFs are not supported at all, and PNG animation is not supported.

For animated images, you have to use WMV - but the encoder is free, and the best tool I've used so far, Video Vegas 4.0b, makes the whole thing a snap with direct support of WM8 output (every video has worked so far)

Will "Windows Media Encoder 9 Series" work?

I've seen a v7, and now V9, but I never saw a V8..

Am I just blind?

Yes, that's why, you bobble-headed moderator, you apparently wear eyeglasses.  laugh.gif

Yeah, WM8 tools are out there. I think they will make another appearance at "The Usual Places" sometime tonight. M$ still has them buried somewhere on their servers, too, but they are harder to find.

Vegas Video 4 just rocks though.... I set up a special "Xbox Video" setting for WM8 output, 480x360 500kbps output multi-pass high-quality. It produces very nice, smooth videos.
