Media X Menu 0.9i Released!
« Reply #15 on: April 27, 2003, 03:53:00 AM »

Ellooo All,

Well I've just had my first play with it.

I've read the tutorial and followed the users guide and readme doc's.

I'm getting an error of some sorts, not sure what its related to as yet.

When I boot the DVD i get the matrix screen witht he verticle scrolling text.

But!, Yes there is always a but!.

The verticle scrolling text freezes dead still after 2 sec's and everything stops.
I dont get the menu system or any further.

Dont suppose anyone would have any suggestions ?

Thanxz in advance for any help provided.  beerchug.gif

Ellooo All,

Firstly I'd like to say thanxz to BenJeremy for this cool application.
This is all new to me, making multi-game DVD's.

I've downloaded 3 files: mxm_beta_0_9i_bin  &  mxm_beta_0_9i_src  &  MXMReadMe

The first line of both MXMReadMe files inside the compressed files states "Media X Menu Version 0.9h Beta".
So has the revision been over looked from being revised ? Because I thought this is suppose to be version 0.9i

Also could someone please tell me what the difference is between the 2 different files, *.bin & *.src ?

Thanxz for any help in advance.   cool.gif

My bad on the ReadMe.... there's a lot of stuff to catch - I missed the typo.  ohmy.gif

The "Bin" would be the pre-built binaries (some kind soul must have compiled them with the XDK  huh.gif  )

The "Src" is the source code (albeit rather messy, I always send out the source code)

Thank you for this GREAT Work!
Cannot wait to download it!

PS: when will the manual be available? That would be GREAT as well.
Also, what about the software that will create the XML configuration?
When it will be released? THANK YOU!

Well, there is a 'manual' there, it's just not well fleshed out yet. As I get contributions and suggestions, I'll add to it.

Hmmmm... don't know what's happening there. Can you post your BIOS? MXM should be pretty forgiving of where it's launched from.

Try running it without any MXM.xml files or skin files (just a directory all by itself) and see if it works that way.

Well,  there's a bit of video work involved. I'm currently working on it.

* FTP server is enabled, but it will likely lock up on use. It requires a valid FileZilla.xml file, and I've run out
of time to get it sorted out.

BenJeremy: That's kinda scary to me, is it that difficult for the end user (us) to create a valid filezilla.xml file?

Once we have a valid filezilla.xml file, should ftp work perfectly, no locks?

thanks.

I'm not entirely sure... I just didn't have time to mess with it. This week I'll take a better look. It's in there, so if you can get a working config file going, yeah, it should work. I basically got it all 'wired in' so to speak, you can actually log into the FTP server, and the thing locks up as soon as you try and look at one of the drives.

With the release of the source code, I'm hoping somebody will have a look at it and figure out what is happening there.

OF course, if J.P. Patches is reading this, I'm hoping he'll take another gander at the FTP server side so I can get it all resolved, now that MXM is working well as a dashboard.

Man, lookin at this dash, I really must commend you. I'm a small-time programmer and am taking courses this summer at college. I've seen alot of cool features in a dash, but this one just takes the cake. Keep up the good work.

I have 2 questions.

1. How to disable the Now Loading..... text when loading or going back to dash.

2. How to remove the Menu X Menu text in the menu background.

I been playing around with it a bit today. I'm trying a skin out.

Well, for the loading screen, you can change the delay to zero (which doesn't eliminate it, just prevents any delay), and you'd have to put in your own parameters to create a loading screen.

As for the Menu X text (I'm assuming you mean the menu screen), again, that's a skin setting. There are four informational strings in the Menu screen layout. Simply removing the nodes will remove the text.

I messed around with xbox filezilla,

Found out u can use the windows version setup thing for it,
and use the config file it creates on xbox, worked well for the filezilla in xbmp.
U get the whole nice gui and a reasurrance your config isnt making it crash.

Use windows filezilla server.
Then run the filezilla server interface, should connect to the admin portion of it.

I've never played around with MXM before but have used MenuX.  Newer demo CDs such as those that come with gaming magazines have an awesome menu system...the background web thing pulsates and changes colors...looks pretty phat...does anyone know if it would be possible to use the graphics files from the newer demo cd as a skin for MXM?

Well, if it's a video animation, sure... the "Generator" skin by StrongBad, for MXM, is a good example of a trippy abstract animated background.

* Added capability to use SubMenus and load from secondary menu files. This is a big one... still
works the old way, but with true XML loading of the menu information, you can now group items in a variety
of ways and also you don't need to worry anymore about the <Item_1> indexing.

THANKS BENJEREMY!!!!!!!!!

Submenus Rock!  You're the man!
