Is there a program that can convert xbx files to a png format or something that you can view normally?

Here's what you want:

Release Info
==============

19 updates & many hours of coding later, HoRnEyDvL, GreenGiant & NghtShd have
came out with a new release, Xbox Image Converter 3.0 (formerly known as
Image To Xbx Converter.)

This new release includes many new features!

 * Convert an image to a .xbx file - to replace the icons in either the M$
memory section, or in the neXgen Dashboard.

   - To replace these the icons, either place ur newly made .xbx file into the
appropriate directory in e:udata using our newly improved ftp client,
which now identifies which folder relates to which game (based on a
limited database, a future release will alow u to expand on this
database. Until then you can edit the database with Access)

 * Convert an image to a .tbn file - for use as thumbnails for XBMP

   - simply place the .tbn file into the same folder as program, file or
folder it relates to. load xbmp, and these thumbs will be cached. You can
     then delete your .tbn

 * Brand spankin new feature, convert a .xbx file to a jpeg

   - Feel like editing an existing .xbx file? Want one of those game icons
for some other use? Never fear, just choose the JPG option and convert
any .xbx file (with a few exceptions) to a normal picture format.

And there you go. Program usage is pretty straight forward. To convert to xbx,
choose xbx, to convert to tbn, choose tbn, and to convert an xbx to jpg, choose
jpg. Then choose the file, put a filename and folder name, and hit convert.

To ftp the file to your xbox, hit the ftp client button.

I have 2 questions.

1. How to disable the Now Loading..... text when loading or going back to dash.

2. How to remove the Menu X Menu text in the menu background.

I been playing around with it a bit today. I'm trying a skin out.

Well, for the loading screen, you can change the delay to zero (which doesn't eliminate it, just prevents any delay), and you'd have to put in your own parameters to create a loading screen.

As for the Menu X text (I'm assuming you mean the menu screen), again, that's a skin setting. There are four informational strings in the Menu screen layout. Simply removing the nodes will remove the text.

I wasn't talking about the title screen. I was talking about in the game select menu box. I look all thru the xml and I can find the lines to remove this Menu X Menu in that game select box. I know this picture is bad. My video capture card is screwed up right now.

Started messing around with skin making, and I wanted to use some of my own fonts, and I know you said you include them, but I don't know how to pack XPR's (Xbox Packed Resource)

searched the forums for it, didnt come up with anything relevant

Help would be appreciated  smile.gif

That's what I mentioned.... there are "Text" LayoutElements in the "Menu" Layout that display informational strings. You can change them, move them, or remove them completely.

It will look like this entry:

CODE

 Fontb
 0xFF80FF80
 0xFF000000
  true
 true
 1750
 3

The above is an example of a Text LayoutElement (Gadget) that display the string Identified as "DiscTitle", which is information pulled from the MXM.xml file.

Removing this 'node' will remove the text from the skin.

Thanks for the update BenJeremy, nice release biggrin.gif

Well, the fonts are made with tools from the XDK, specifically, "FontMaker" and "Bundler" - for obvious reasons, I can't give them out from the XDK, however, I'm pretty sure, by the end of the week, these tools might make an appearance on the net as part of a mini-toolkit, if some kind soul acts for MXM skinners.  wink.gif

There is now a handy little tool, that uses FontMaker and Bundler to help create XPR files with fonts in them.

I don't know for sure, but I think the FontBundle tool got stuck out in "The Usual Places" along with supplimental files.  blink.gif

Yea, just noticed... thanks for the heads up, and also to whichever kind soul created this handy little font bundle!  rolleyes.gif

Let me know how this works so the, ahem, author of this tool can get some feedback.

It should make creating XPR fonts a snap for people who don't possess the XDK, nor are inclined to understand the tools required.

It automates some of the process, creating the intermediate "RDF" file needed to generate the XPR using Bundler from the output of the FontMaker utility, and runs Bundler for the user.

I'd suggest not using the "Shadow" option on FontMaker, as MXM supports dynamic shadows. Outline might be useful, but you'll be stuck with a black outline, regardless of what color you want in your skin. I'll have to look and see if the font support for this has been updated to allow this color to be changed.

Oh... you may need "MSVCR70.dll" which is easily found in a search on google.com for downloading.

Is there anyway to make the menu highlight bar move and the game titles stay in one place. I know that wouldnt be good for games on the hard drive but for a disk with only 3 or 4 games its what I would like to do. Right now the game titles move and the highlight bar is always in the same place.

There are two styles fo menu blocks currently available to skin designers, "MXM" and "MenuX" - MenuX works like the M$ demo menu, and may be what you are looking for.

They both take very different parameters, but there are XML samples in the Skinner's Overview which should give a good idea on how to set it up.

Maybe if I understood how or where its setup in  MXM to make the titles scroll and the highlight bar stable it would be easier. Hopefully you wont point out something right in front of my faces again.  smile.gif

Well, it's a part of the skin, so you'd have to modify the skin you want to use to do this.

It's a bit tricky, and perhaps somebody will be kind enough to release a skin to do precisely this.
