QUOTE (Kage @ Mar 12 2003, 01:26 PM)
my question is this. I have the MXM.xml file in the folder that contains the iso folder. within the iso folder i have another mxm.xml file which i sthe one that load the title of the disc when the swirl is on the back ground. Then there i sthe one on the default skin folder.. which looks loke this@ the very bottom. Also why do my game pics take about 2 sec to load. Thanks u.
- <Music>
 <Dir>MUSIC</Dir>
 </Music>
 </Config>

OK.... it's still a bit odd, 'iso folder?'

Your game disc should look like this:

D:\default.xbe <=MXM's xbe
D:\MXM.xml  <= MXM config file (This is the only MXM.xml it will read)
D:\DefaultSkin <=This directory should be self-explanatory, contains the skin
D:\Game01 <= whatecver the contents of this game's DVD would be in this dir
D:\Game01\MXM_SS.jpg <= screenshot, unless you specified elsewhere
D:\Game01\MXM_Entry.xml <= Game's config, unless you made an entry in MXM.xml

D:\Music <= music in here

You can remove the DefaultSkin folder and replace it with other skins, or just add new skins to have it rotate through the skins when booting (selecting a different skin on each boot)

The images take a few moments because they are loaded from the disc. You can speed this up by keeping them small. I am currently working on a cache to help alleviate this issue as part of the new skin tech.

Sorry, no MP3 support. Has to be a WMA file. I usually encode using WinAMP 2.x with the WMA output set to 96kbps 48khz stereo.

Trying to set MXM up to play games off the HDD and have a question. Do I neccesarily need this:

<MenuPath>E:APPSMXM2</MenuPath>

Either as it is or set to my own spec? It's obviously not doing anything now as I don't have a MXM2 directory on E:APPS....so if I do need to set it to my spec, I don't know what I would put there.

Makes me think its not neccesary at all.

Set MenuPath and MXM Path to wherever your MXM is run from...

<MXMPath>E:\MXM\</MXMPath>

If it's running from E:

Well, I don't know what's wrong for your configuration at this point, if you set the file into the E:\APPS\MXM2\MUSIC directory, it should find it fine.

You should also be able to specifically point to a single tune with <Background>E:APPSMXM2MUSICMyTune.wma</Background> (wherever your file is located, that is)

Also I found that when you choose to go back to the dashboard
unless you eject the disc it will boot up again..Can an eject function be added so that can be selected to avoid this ??? Or is there another way???

Ok first up BENJ create app, keep it up.Looks good and reasonably easy to configure. Just a couple questions is there a more in depth
user manual yet ??? I would like to see what the full potential of this is...Can you also tag a specific wma file for a specific wmv, so when you select that game in the menu it plays that sound track?? beerchug.gif

On the first thing.... hmmm... it's possible that I could switch to a new tune, based on the current menu item. Perhaps as a future feature.

As to the second item, I'm working on revamping some of that stuff, so it should be much better in the near future (individual selection of all dashes available, and security, too)

As for the manual... well, the next release will come with some new doco, since the skinning technology demands it. Also, I will try and bring more tutorials online for regular "users" of the app.

Ok, so I've made a few iso's with your MXM walkthrough, and might I say it's great, I've got the little pictures in there and everything is cool....but I did run into a little problem, let me explain:

1) I'm burning an ISO with 2 of my games: MotoGP and Amped, I get everything setup as I normally do [MXM.xml, MXM_Entry.xml & MXM_SS.xxx] grab some pics from IGN and create my image: yeah!

2) Pop in the Xbox, and play amped: all good, but then try motogp: it just freezes.  I highlight MotoGP and the caption @ the bottom is the correct "summary" but the amped pic is still there.  So I reboot a few times: same thing, goto boXplorer, and run the default.xbe from the motogp folder: runs fine.

3) look back at my file structure and noticed that the motogp file was a gif file- which according to the walkthrough is cool, but figure maybe a problem?  So I opened up the file in paint and saved it as a .jpg file

4) rebuilt the iso file and re-burnt the disk: pop back in the Xbox, and now mxm says that there is no image avail for motogp!  But it runs fine, and so does amped.

Here's the image from ign's website:
user posted image

I verified that the size of the images are the same, both the gif file and the jpg file for MotoGP, and the image for amped.  Any ideas for this?  Thanks!

[edit]I am using the .9h version of MXM, if that helps.  I really don't care if the pics are there, I'm just wondering if I'm doing something wrong...[/edit]

I'll try and take a look at the GIF problem....

As for your conversion problem, not sure what happened there... perhaps you had specified the gif in the entry file (not really needed if you use the MXM_SS.* name)?

I am doing a few things to make the image loading a bit more robust, so bad images will merely prevent the texture from loading, but not crash the system. Pant Shop Pro makes bad PNG images (at least, the XDK texture loading libs do not like them).

QUOTE (senator @ Mar 18 2003, 08:53 AM)
OK here's the deal.... Running 2000 (NTFS) o/s
 I have made iso's with Craxtion, isomaker 2, all seems ok.
Had trouble with iso's over 4 gb, converted to NTFS made iso of Two Towers OK. Made more iso's with both apps up to and over 4gb...Tried to make a multi game disc with media x menu...Created one burned on cdr/w with smaller apps to test...Worked great no worries...Tried to make a dual game disc with Dead to Rights and MK Deadly Alliance with mxm and craxtion and isomaker2, when the iso was about half way through it freezes the pc on both iso apps, it seems to be when it has finished the Dead to Rights part of the iso around 2.35gb. Ok so I tried it in Craxtion itself and used the multi game creator in that..It worked and made iso about 3.96gb.
So the question is because I would rather use mxm coz it's a bit cooler, can there be something in the files or in the area of mxm that could cause this problem during iso creation...Or am I
just too tired at the moment and stumbling on my arse.. laugh.gif

Cheers...... beerchug.gif

Nothing in MXM or MenuX files would cause Craxtion to hang, since they are, after all, just getting copied from a directory.

You'll have to ask LePpPeR aqbout this one.

Good luck.

For all those interested in creating skins for MXM, I have posted an incomplete rough draft of the Skinning Overview, a reference for skinning using the "new technology" I've talked about.

Here's the link.

I'm looking for feedback, so e-mail me at [email protected]

Ben,

What happens if in MXM.xml you have items out of order, say something like what I have below? Will the menu still show the items in order (i.e. sorted numerically) or will they be displayed from top to bottom of the file?:

<Item_1>
<Title>007: Nightfire</Title>
<Description>EA Games</Description>
<Media>ss7nf.jpg</Media>
<Dir>F:HDDLoaderPxGame1</Dir>
</Item_1>

<Item_3>
<Title>4X4 Evolution 2</Title>
<Description>Gathering of Developers</Description>
<Media>ss4x4.jpg</Media>
<Dir>F:HDDLoaderPxGame3</Dir>
</Item_3>

<Item_2>
<Title>Aggressive Inline</Title>
<Description>Acclaim</Description>
<Media>ssaggin.jpg</Media>
<Dir>F:HDDLoaderPxGame2</Dir>
</Item_2>

They will go into MXM in 1,2,3 order, that is, in the order of the index you give the items.

The next version of MXM will be more flexible, allowing you to forego the index numbers, and that one **WILL** take the entries in the specific order you put them in the file.

But for the moment, it looks for Item_1, then Item_2, then Item_3 when pulling in the information, and this lookup is done after the file is loaded into memory, so it can bounce all over the configuration at that point smile.gif
