just use the continuity selection, and it should either beep(digital)or the needle will fly all the way over to the right side of the dial(analog). as for where to check on the mobo, it depends on which ver. box you've got. Basic rule of thumb when checking pcb boards, follow the circuit until you see another open connection then ground(-) there, then touch the red(+) to the end that you just soldered(it really makes no difference which end you put where but I tend to do it that way). if it does what I described what I said above, then you are good to go.
