Avalaunch 0.49.1 Strange Behaviour

I have the previous avalaunch 0.49 configured in a CD and I boot from it when I need to do any FTP or file management. I don't have any other dashboard installed in HD except MS' original. avalaunch 0.49 will appear normal after booting up and ejection of the CD.

With recent 0.49.1 version however, all text on the screen dissappears mysteriously upon ejection of the boot CD. The background remains but the text vanishes when the CD is ejected. FTP still works though.

Is this a new "feature" that prevents avalaunch from being used when the boot CD is not present? I know that I can't start the file manager in v0.49 after the CD is ejected.
