Why the hell would you think that? Just put your old drive back in. Also what you should do is after you boot with that hd.... unsolder your switches and then do the auf flash. Do not have them soldered before or else you'll only have access to part of the tsop and this problem with reoccur.

or a 31 wire mod will get you fired up - it's about your only choice, there's no way to do the 007 trick without booting the box, and it's not going to boot without a locked drive, unless you've got a chip in there...as you've discovered...

yes, hdprepare would zero the drive, and set up the partitions, however, you need to "format" them by ftp'ing to the box - going to be hard without a chip - you have a buddy with a modded box? otherwise you'll have to chip it...
