basically you would need to set up mameox as your dash so it would boot up mameox.

You don't edit evox.ini, you replace Evox with MAME, or replace Evox with the XBMC shortcut configured to point to MAME, or (if your Xbox is chipped / flashed) you edit your BIOS to boot MAME.

I would say that now the best mame emu is coinops ignite as its the newest, very easy to use and also plays in 720p hd.

can you explain a bit more...when you say replace Evox with Mame are you talking about replacing the evox default.xbe file for the mame one insted?

i only ask because when you say replace Evox with MAME some people can get confused and end up deleting the whole c:\ an replaceing it with the mame files....like it just did...nothing works now lol

you would probably be best to use a shorcut for it but im not the best person to ask just wait until heimdall replies.
dont go messing around with anymore files until you get some real advice, last thing you want to do is start messing with files. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

It would be best if your softmod was set up to dual boot. Otherwise you will be booting into Mame with no FTP support. If you used Krazie's Ndure to softmod you can set up dual boot. Have the second boot boot up evox from the C drive.

The easiest way to have Mame boot is to go into the e:\dashboard folder. Copy the evox.ini and default.xbe to the C drive. Rename default.xbe to evox.xbe. Take the .xbe file in the Mame folder and make sure it is named default.xbe. FTP the files from the Mame folder to the E:\dashboard folder. Ensure the default.xbe is in the root of the E:\dashboard folder or it won't boot.

If you don't have dual boot set up, you can probably get back into the Xbox with the game disk you used to set up the softmod. You want to be able to get back into the Xbox with FTP access.
