Please Help With New Hard Disk And Slayers Build.
« on: January 10, 2008, 08:39:00 AM »

I'll start at the beginning.  I purchased a used XBOX, stock, running kernel 4034 and dash 5960... so far so good.  I softmodded the orig drive using the Ndure XboxHDM package which installed UnleashX.  Everything worked perfectly, it would boot into UnleashX, I could run the stock dash from the menu.  I quickly noticed However, that I was going to need more space.

I took a spare 164Gig drive and built another iso from NDURE using the same params as I used for the stock drive, but this time I put the eeprom.bin in there so I could lock the new drive when I was done building it.  So I build the new disk, lock it using the eeprom and pop it into the XBOX.  Booted right up into UnleashX, but there was no sounds in the menus, the orig dash wouldn't load.  So I quickly realized that since the orig drive files were not on the drive to start, I ended up with limited functionality.

Yesterday I research Slayers image, and am told that it has everything I need to restore my drive.  So I find version 2.7 and make a boot DVD.  Booted the XBOX into Slayers and start browsing my options.  I decided to choose option 3, 'new install full rebuild' with 3a1 'new install full rebuild upgraded HD'  This copied a bunch of stuff, and when it stopped, I removed slayers DVD and rebooted.  The HD booted (which is good) into EvoX.  This is where I began to get confused.  There were no Applications installed, I couldn't find any way of loading the M$ dash, and I'm not sure it was even there.  I was short on time, so I didn't attempt to put in an audio CD nor an XBOX game.

So I rebooted the XBOX again with slayers DVD thinking I probably missed something stupid.  This time choosing option 4 'Install Apps/Upgrades.....' I thought about choosing option 4a-10 "install M$ dash' but when I chose that option it said do not use with softmodded box.  I backed out and chose 4a1.  This installed a bunch of stuff and again when it was done, I removed the DVD and rebooted. Again the XBOX booted to EvoX but still there were no apps listed in the menu, no way (that I found quickly anyway) to browse the directories. and such.

Ran out of time and quit for the evening.

So am I doing something wrong?  It was my understanding that you could make a completely stock drive with Slayers disk, but building the drive from scratch did not seem to install anything stock at all.

I would really appreciate a little help.
Thanks all!

At this point this probably doesn't belong in this forum, but the info belongs in teh thread so here it goes...

I took the backup directory from the orig HD and made an install iso with XboxHDM only using these original backup files.  I thought this would make an exact replica drive, so I took my 180 drive, unlocked it with the DOS utility, booted XboxHDM, wiped the partitions and built the disk from scratch using this new iso image.  relocked the drive and tried to boot it in the xbox.  Now I get an error 21.

So I took the disk, unlocked it again with the DOS util, and installed the Ndure softmod over top of the current C.  Relocked.  UnleashX now boots and has sound which tells me I put everything in the proper directories and the rebuild was almost right, but when I go to boot the M$ dash, i still get error 21.

So I then put the orig HD back into the xbox, and FTP'd the entire C from teh working disk to my PC.  then put the 180 back into the XBOX, and FTP'd all the files from my PC to the 180 C overwriting everything.  Still error 21.

Can someone please help me with this new disk?  Should I just clone the old to the new?  Though that may make the M$ dash boot, I would like to know exactly what the issue is though.

Please Help,
Thanks!

Look on the C drive and see what you have for the MS Dash. It could be msdash.xbe, msxboxdash.xbe or even xboxdash.xbe. Then look at your menu to see what it is trying to boot.

Hi, I think I'm having the same issue.

I bought a xbox with a chip already in it, and now I want to put a custom dashboard. So I changed the retail HD with a Seagate 120GB, got the slaYer 2.7 auto-installer, and installed everything (xbmc/evox/apps/MS dash 1.6). All the games ran fine, originals and backups. The one thing that got on my nerves was that when I go to MS Dash to reset my clock, I get a service 21 error. Can someone tell me what to do so I can load the MS Dash?

Thanks.

Edit: Oh, I ran xboxdash.xbe with the xbox file explorer also, still got a service 21 error.

You may need to put the stock xboxdash.xbe file on there from the Slayer's disk.

I have install the MS Dashboard from the SlaYer 2.7 Disc, error 21.
I have run the MS Dashboard straight off from the Slayer Disc, error 21.

Could this be because I have different version of xboxes?
