« on: January 27, 2007, 02:05:00 PM »

Hello good people of xbox-scene.com i m new to this web site so i m sorry in advance if i mention anything im not supposed to. well first of all i took a cross over cable and put it into the back of my xbox. I dont have a router so i put the cross over wire in the back of my pc. in order for me to do that, i have to remove my internet connection wire because i only have 1 place to put it. i m trying to install evox dash build 3995 and after i hooked up my computer. i put the CD in and restarted my xbox. the disk worked fine but when i looked in the settiongs in evox it under "Network" it said "Type" and beside it, it was blank and the secend one under network was "IP" and beside it was blank too and the third one under network said "line status" and beside that, it said "no link!" any explnation? and when i typed in the nessory info in FlashFXP it said connection failed (no route to hoast) som 1 please help me

Did you change the "static IP" setting?

You said this is the same cable your using for your internet..  Right there, Im thinking..  Its not a cross over cable.  You run a straight cable from modem or router to the pc.  If your going pc to xb you need a different type of cable, which is a cross over.  The wiring is slightly different in a cross over than normal ethernet cable used for internet connection from modem or router.

Get a cross over cable, make one or get a router.  You can pick either up fairly cheap.

Iam new too, maybe you have similiar problem with me, take a look on the thread that I posted!
Last night, was the first day I can see the connection between PC and Xbox, AFTER the dashboard indeed installed in Hdd!!!NOT on the boot disc!!
Crossover or not, simply put side by side the ends of the cable, if the colors order is "mess up" that is crossover/xover cable, if exactly the same order that is patch cable, I hope you will get this done earlier than me.

so... i read what it said along the cable and it said patch cord , but... the question still remains what wire should i get? I heard a RJ45 crossover cable is very commonly used. should i get it?

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Depend! If you have router use Patch cable, otherwise (between PC and Xbox directly) use crossover/xover cable (less than$10 thing in ebay). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Have you set your PC's NIC settings as needed (as per the guide pinned in Newbie Chat)?

If your Xbox and PC are on different subnets you'll not be able to communicate.

Check your settings, then try to ping the Xbox first.  If you cannot do that FTP setup is still a future concern.
