Ms Dash Works For A Few Days Then Gets Error
« on: January 26, 2007, 09:30:00 PM »

The problem is I load the Evo3935 dash files on to the hard drive and everything works fine and then a few days later I get an error when I try to get into the MS Dash. Everything else still works great. I can still boot into the Evo dash and play games. I can fix this by replacing the "xboxdash.xbe" and "msxboxdash.xbe" files but then after a few days it happens again. I thought it had something to do with the time but when I replace the files I set the time and it works fine for a few days and then when the MS dash gets the error I can see the time and date are still set correctly from the Evo dash.

When I installed the Evo dash I changed the "default.xbe" to "xboxdash.xbe" then changed the original "xboxdash.xbe" to "msxboxdash.xbe" and changed the line in the "evox.ini" file to read "MSDashBoard="c:\msxboxdash.xbe" then I FTPed these over to the hard drive. Im assuming it not my error since it works fine for a while.

I know the error number would help but any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Your xboxdash.xbe file may be getting updated by a game trying to update the MS dash.

Can your Xbox boot a default.xbe from the C drive? I think most Chips look for the default.xbe file and if it doesn't find it it looks for the xboxdash.xbe to load the MS Dash.

Try that and post results.

I understand what your saying but if its updating the "xboxdash.xbe" file, thats the file that boots my EvoX Dash and my EvoX dash works fine. If that was the case, wouldnt that screw up my Evox dash? My MS dash runs from the "msxboxdash.xbe" file and I cant image how a game could screw around with the file that loads the MS dash since it was renamed.

Im still going to try it though. Im going to rename the "xboxdash.xbe" file that loads my EvoX dash to "default.xbe" and see what happens. Should I still leave the file that loads the MS dash named "msxboxdash.xbe" or should I change it back to "xboxdash.xbe". I understand I have to edit the "evox.ini" if I change the name of the file that loads the MS dash if I want the EvoX dash to be able to load the MS dash.

you need to restore your MS dash from a slayers disc, and install the newest xbmc

EDIT: thes flash the newest x2 bios to that poor choice of a chip.

exactly! wink.gif ... once you flash the x2 bios (X2.5032 or 5035) to your chip make sure you put the x2config.ini file into the E partition of the xbox.... from this file u can change the boot order of what the X2 bios looks for when it's first booted... basically it makes it much easier to change boot order etc this way instead of having the boot order hardcoded into the bios.

so when msdash ever attempts to update again it will never screw with your xbox since you could tell the bios (from the x2config.ini file) to boot something like E:\XBMC\default.xbe for it's first choice etc etc etc

p.s. reason i usually recommend Xecuter 2.x modchips is cause you can use a program called "FlashX v1.2" to update your bios on a Xecuter 2.x modchip REALLY easy! ... since it runs as a application and it's straight forward on howto use it... and it's never failed me even once and i used it many times to update my bios over the months/years.... only downside is it only works for Xecuter 2.x modchips... which he dont have.
