Xbmc Dashboard Help
« on: January 18, 2007, 02:21:00 PM »

Heya guys I am currently using a xbox that was purchased in december 2005 and I installed a softmod which put EvolutionX Dashboard (Also since I dont have a mod-chip there is no Bios version as it comes up "Unknown") and I am attempting to install XBMC as a dashboard.

I have these folders in XBMC
Credits
Language
Media
Screensavers
Scripts
Skin
Sounds
System
User Data
Visualisations
Web
Default.xbe

XBMC Guide says this
1. Find out what the dashboard on your Xbox is (usually evoxdash.xbe in C:)
2. Rename your current dashboard to an alternate bootable name. This will be used as a fallback if execution of the new shortcut fails. Consult the table below, or www.xbox-scene.com for details on your dash.
3. Download the XBMC Shortcut XBE and rename it to whatever the dash was named (usually evoxdash.xbe)
4. Upload the renamed XBE to where the old xbe was (the old dashboard)
5. Install XBMC to somewhere on E: or F: (best to install to E:\Apps\XBMC, making sure the files go in there, so you DONT have E:\Apps\XBMC\XBMC) (Instructions on how to install XBMC can be found under Installing XBMC as an Application)
6. create a text file and put the path to the XBMC default.xbe inside it (eg. E:\Apps\XBMC\default.xbe)
7. rename to whatever the dashboard was named, except use the extention ".cfg" instead of ".xbe" (eg. evoxdash.cfg)
8. Upload the renamed text file to the same place you uploaded the shortcut xbe to in step 3.
9. Reboot

Congratulations, now you are all set and don't need to alter the shortcut again, unless you change location of XBMC's default.xbe.

Now in C: I have these files.
Audio
Fonts
Xboxdashdata.185ead00
xodash
xbox book.xtf
xbox.xtf
xboxdash.xbe

I know I have to just copy everything in the XBMC Folder to E:Apps\XBMC but what do I name the text file can it be anything ???

Do I just name the xbe I downloaded to xboxdash.xbe ?

Also a final question, once done and I turn my xbox off and then back on if it doesnt boot up how easy is it to restore the previous dash without reformatting the drive ? or can I still use flashfxt to ftp ?

This is my foolproof method of changing from Evox to XBMC.

FTP the default.xbe and evox.ini in the E:\dashboard to the PC. This is a back up. Rename default.xbe to evoxdash.xbe. FTP evoxdash.xbe and the evox.ini to the C drive. If XBMC fails for some reason it will look for and load evoxdash.xbe.

FTP the "SHORTCUT by TEAM XBMC.xbe" file to the E:\dashboard folder. In FlashFXP you have the option to right click on the file and "transfer as". Use that option and transfer as default.xbe Over write the default.xbe in there. If you can't transfer as, transfer it as is. Rename the default.xbe that is currently in the E:\dashboard folder to evox.xbe and then rename the SHORTCUT by TEAM XBMC.xbe to default.xbe. Works either way.

Create a text file using notepad or another text editor that has one line.

E:\Apps\XBMC\default.xbe

Save it as default.cfg

FTP it to the Xbox in the E:\dashboard folder.

Reboot the Xbox and you will have XBMC as your dash.

Make sure the Xbox doesn't reboot or lose power during this. Make the default.cfg file first to save some time while FTPing the rest over.

Thanks!  I am new to the softmod and your foolproof method worked the first time! Thanks for posting!  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
