New To Evox - Adjust Screen?
« on: January 14, 2007, 07:46:00 AM »

Are you talking about not being able to see all the dashboard items? Or are you having problems with games?

Dashboard items are easy to fix. You need to get the skin on the PC (FTP). Then open it in notepad. Change the  XY positions until it fits your screen. I have had many skins that looked that way. The ones I liked I would modify to suit me.

As to why it doesn't automatically fit, I have no clue.

I did the same for my nintendo emulator. I couldn't read the first 4 letters of the game name. Changed the settings and now all is great.

Make an adjustment on one line to see where it moves it. If you are trying to move items right and down, I would suggest starting with the bottom line so you don't move a line over another one and can still see it.

FTP the "skin" file to the PC it should be 1-2k. Make the changes, FTP it back. Restart the Xbox to see your changes. With Evox, any time you make a change you have to restart the Xbox.

Try that and let me know how it goes. Before starting, make a copy of the skin file so if you totally screw it up you can revert to it. While you are at it, make copies of the C and E drives on the PC.

TV screens have a built in "overscan", where a portion of the picture (by spec) can be off the screen.  Default specs are that 5-10% of the image can be outside the viewable area of the screen.

Fixed pixel screens, such as LCD, Plasma, and DLP do not have overscan, but any CRT based TV does.

Developers should take this into consideration when developing a game, or editing video.   If you've ever used quality video editing software or DVD menu creation tools, there's a usually a way to turn on the border for the "safe zone", i.e., the area of the image that is guaranteed to be seen by the viewer.  In fact, here's a quick visual explanation:

Anyway, more than you probably wanted to know!
