Vga Box On Lcd -> Out Of Range
« on: September 28, 2005, 11:47:00 AM »

When I connect my vga box on a LCD screen (15.1 inch) I got no display, only a "Out of Range" message on LCD monitor. Is there some things I should check before buying a LCD monitor to plug on my xbox?

thanks in advance

Make sure your xbox is set up to run in high definition.  You have to enable this in the dash with the High Def pack connected.  An easy way to do this is to connect the High Def pack and plug the green cable into a composite (yellow) video input on a tv.  Settings - Video - Enable each High Def Mode.  Most monitors should work I think.

Which VGA Box is it?

So I need a High Def Pack. Is that a Component cable?

I use a VGA Box bought on divineo.com, the only one they have. They only provide component for PS2 (since I bought it from xbox section, that is a shame...)

I don't see any high def in the dashboard menu, so I guess I need this high def pack (or component cable?)

From what I know you are going to need the HD component cables. I would recomend getting some off ebay you should be able to get them for pretty cheap. The HD menu only appears when the HD pack is set up. If there is a manual you might want to check that out to see if it says anything about setting it up. Good luck.

EDIT: GIVE THIS A TRY

To set 480p blindly in the XBox Dash:

Down
Down
A

Pause 1 Second

Down

Pause 1 Second

Pause 1 Second

Left

Restart your XBox, and you should be in 480p.

He doesn't need component cables. What good are they with a VGA monitor?

Fanck - I don't know what sort of box you have, but I suggest you get a good one (like the Neoya X2VGA). It will then give you a semi-visible picture so you can enable 480p/720p and 1080i within the dashboard.

Ok. Now I have component cable, I was able to see something on my LCD screen.

Well, MSDash is messy (cloudy, wrong colors...)
All I can use is 480p, both 720 and 1080 give me a black screen (I guess my screen doesn't handle it)

but, I can't get MSDash to display properly, is there a way to do it?

when I start XBMC I got 2 screens! I mean I see the same screen twice on the LCD, cut in half.

Video is still messy, but colors seems right with XBMC.

What should I do to have full screen? is my monitor not compatable? should I change my VGA Box for a better one that can handle all this without problems?

thanks

The question is, do you have a transcoder (true vga adapter), or a line-doubler (pos vga adapter)?

Until we know which, we cannot help you.

EDIT: I just checked here, on the site he bought it from.  I hate to break it to you, but it is definently an over priced ($79) linedoubler.  Setting up 480p and higher resolutions will have absolutely no effect; the device does not support progressive HDTV settings.  It just takes 480i and doubles the lines to a psuado 480p.

That being said, i'm not sure why it is not working on your monitor, most lindoublers work on about any monitor.  Besides the fact the picture is going to be shitty no matter what you do.

Next time spend less money and get a true vga adapter/transcoder.  It will give you a crystal clear image.  The two best ones out are the x2vga and the VD-Z3.
