Xbmc And Evo X Questions

ok i have evo x and xbmc as an app.... is there anything evo x can do that xbmc cant.... my friend modded my xbox softmod... and it has shadow c and stuff i just wanted to get in detail it explained to me.. iam a fast learner and a good pc user... first what does shadow c do i know it is an old copie of the c drive or what ever.. what do i need it for and if i ever messed up my hd how could i restore it.. i wana try to start modding and messing around with it but i wana back it up correctly first and stuff...
