To answer your question, yes.  You can make your own boot disc from Evox, UnleashX, Avalaunch, etc.

Or you can get Slayer's (a heavily loaded installer boot disc) and use that.

The former would be much, much faster.  Read the "Guide to Your Very First Evox Boot Disc" in the Xbox-scene.com Tutorials page.

If your Xbox isn't hard modded, you can't run a boot disk.

Exactly what are you wanting to check out?
