Well it is good to see that there are still fans of SlaYer's who appreciate all the hard work and countless man hours of testing and tweaking that have gone into making this free tool. To you all I say: thank you for your support and kind words!
We also seem to have the folks who think that it's not needed and they can do everything by hand or through their own scripts, to you I say: More power to you! But do not bash something that has helped so many people enjoy their Xbox when they were overwhelmed by the difficulty of obtaining apps and not knowing how they interact with each other. It is true the installer is "hard to find" but there is a reason for that, and you know it well.
Anyway, in case no-one bothered to look at the
home page of our site, v2.7 will still be based on EvoX, be just a refresher (newest apps, tools & bioses) but it will have ONE new feature people have been asking for a lot in
our forums. That feature is not public knowledge for now as we must ensure that it works properly 1st. It is nothing amazing, so do not get too excited, but I think it will make a nice enhancement.
Since the installer is meant for the original Xbox, and since the Xbox 360 is still a little far away from homebrew software, releasing the installer based on a new dash (like UnleashX) makes no sense as there is no other functionality you'd gain. The testing cycle to ensure the new scripts work flawlessly take a lot of time and honestly I do not have any these days. There are other installers out there who do some amazing things and I was not going to update 2.6 but I kept getting countless PM's and emails asking me to, so I am just replying in kind.
The auto-download/update is a neat idea I had myself over 2 years ago, but implementing and maintaining it when all the apps are "underground" on unreliable and uncertain servers with the law always cracking down, and with hosts not getting anything out of their efforts, would make this a very unreliable system. If the apps were all legal and there was some sort of subsidy for the bandwidth used by the tens of thousands of downloads, be assured I would have implemented this years ago. I would really hate to release something that works great for a week and then becomes utterly useless since it cannot update itself.
Anyway, no one is forcing you to look for, download or use the installer, and if you do not think it makes worthwhile news, feel free to write something yourself that does!
Meantime we thank XanTium for his continued support, gracious hosting of our site and the kind PR.
All the best to you all and Happy Modding!
