Speker On Xbox
« on: April 10, 2005, 10:25:00 PM »

ok, so im putting an xbox in my car, and the screen is in the trunk. And since i still want audio when im playing im going to put speakers in my trunk. Im almost certain im going to need an amp to power the speakers, or is there anything else i should look into, all i need is like a way to hook the xbox up to 2-4 speakers and maby have like a daisy chain amp so i can hook it up to the amp for my subs, that way i get some boom. biggrin.gif

I think the best way would be to go through your car stereo. You can hook up the amps to that and then have the speakers connect to the amps. You can't just connect two amps together either.

Your only option then is to have a seperate amp. The only problem is how your a going to keep the amp from staying on when you aren't using it. Normally the amp is wired w/ a remote turn on to the stereo so it will only be on when the stereo is on. You might be able to wire it to the Xbox some way. The reason you have to have an amp is because there you wont be able to hear the sound through the speakers as there would be no way of adjusting the sound level.

ok, so ill just get an amp then hook the remote wire up to the xbox PSU, which i can figure out later, well now i just gotta figure out how to make the xbox into a media player for my spekers in the car. I need like a switch to split between the back amp and the front deck, that i have a cd changer in on, i can hook in into that, so just basically its all good except for like a way of easily torning on the xbox and selecting songs from my drivers seat. beerchug.gif

How are you going to adjust the volume if you aren't going through a head unit before your amps?  blink.gif

The only way would be to adjust the gain directly on the amp.

I would suggest getting a deck for your car that will take input, connect the xbox into that, as for using if tor media, I would suggest doing the hip gear LCD mod to have a small display when your driving, then get a controler wired up to the front or a look into using the dvd remote.

there is no sence to keeping the sound system for your xbox and the car separate if you want to use the xbox to play audio files in your car while your driving.

well if i do get a deck for the back, then that would be kinda weird, there is nothing else i can put inbetween the xbox and the speakers where i can actually control the volume. I was also thinking of just ditching the idea of taking the xbox to use as a media source for the front speakers. Then i can put 2 xbox;s in the back and 2 screens in my trunk lid and have a little LAN setup. beerchug.gif

you would have the deck to control the volume, route the xbox through all 4 speakers

maybe you should consider putting the screens in the back seats?

could also add 2 or more speakers to your sound system in the trunk

routing the sound through your sound system would allow you to play your mp3 collection

well the screen are 17" ones and i dont wanna cut into my mercedes seats. I think now im just going to have the speakers in the trunk only for the xbox and nothing else. Now i just need a good way of controling the vloume. And i dont really want a new head unit in my trunk, there has got to be some other way of doing it. beerchug.gif

You could use a voltage inverter (to get A/C voltage) and use a home amp with volume control.  Point is, with car stereo amps...they are only amps.  Don't have remote volume control (yes you can manually adjust the gain...lame) and they don't have input selectors.  The head unit in a car acts as the input selector and volume control.

On a home amp, all of this is combined into one unit.  But of course, they aren't as compact.

Your MB must already have a decent head unit...still don't know why you can't use the speakers already in your car, and the amps already in your car and your head unit, and just add the XBOX, but you haven't really described the goal of your system.  In your last message you made it sound like you just want captives in your trunk to use it.  blink.gif

After rereading your posts, it sure sounds like buying a home surround amp and speakers and installing it with an A/C power adapter in your trunk is the way to go for what you want.
