X2vga + Pal/ntsc Problem
« on: April 09, 2005, 05:18:00 AM »

Got my X2VGA+ today, having some problems.

I've switched my box to NTSC several ways now....

Enigmah selector
X3 Live configuration
ConfigLive

Yet I *STILL* do not have the progressive mode options in the xbox dashboard.

What do I have to do to get the darn thing working :/ Enabling progressive modes in X3 Live seems to have made absolutely no difference either.

Tried 3 different monitors (main one being a 30" sharp aquos LCD), and still nothing but wobbly grey 480i mess.

Any ideas? I just can't get the HDTV modes to appear in my MS dashboard.

Using a 1.6 Crystal with Xcalibur chip, if this helps....

Hmm.... try using another component cable and see if that makes a difference. I'm betting that the pins on the X2vga's video connector (the end that goes into your Xbox) are bent or something and the Xbox isn't recognizing it as a component cable, but rather a composite cable.

PS: If nothing works, then you can use Avalaunch to enable the HD modes, but be careful, I've heard stories of eeprom corruption with Avalaunch.

I'll have a look at em later, be annoyed if they are, because I literally took it out of the box and plugged it in.

I've tried enabling the HDTV modes in the X3 Config Live menu, but to no avail either.

Does sound like the cable though....

Still no joy. All the pins look in perfect condition. My LCD is telling me it's in NTSC, but no HDTV options still :(

I had this very issue when I got my X2VGA. The AVIP cable on the X2VGA has the mode select jumpers within the loom. One of them goes up the cable into the PCB and is then affected by the dip switches. I solved the problem by simply jumping the mode select pins myself. By that I mean not letting the X2VGA do the swicthing, after all you only want it for VGA right not composite. Set up the AVIP to support YUV only and it should enable the HD settings in M$ and then work. Oh and by the way you may end up cutting the rubber moulding off the plug, but it's dead easy to glue back together.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Could you be a bit more specific about what needs to be changed? I've opened up the loom and...well, where do I go from here? I need to rewire a couple of the connections? If so, which ones, to where :)

Thanks

Look at JaredC01's diagram and short the respective mode select terminals to give you Component YUV. It should work then. You only need short 4 pins as per instructions.
