Firmware For Video
« on: April 07, 2005, 05:16:00 PM »

I have just recently purchased a new motherboard off ebay for my xbox, but the board is from Scotland and I am from Canada. If I mod my box and then do a firmware update will this fix the vertical hold and color problem that I am having??? <

Well arent Scotland PAL and you NTSC ???

Use configmagic and use "ontheflly" config, change from PAL, Region 4 to NTSC, Region 1

not sure if you are NTSC, Region 1 but to what Region that u are in...
That should fix it <

Yip it will work, though the biggest problem you may have is actually seeing what you are doing. You can always change to NTSC first with Enigmah, (far simpler to do blind) though you will need to use configmagic eventually if you also want change the region and not just the video mode. <

one more question guys, I know that when I mod my box I will be able to play games from all regions but will this allow the PAL format to play through my NTSC TV. This is probably the main question that I should have asked when I asked about the firmware update???

I also would like to know what firmware is the best to use for a v 1.6 board

Thanks again for the help <

It will all depend on the TV. If its multiformat (not too old) then it will be fine, but if not then you will have to stick to NTSC games. But I don't think thats going to be much of a problem for you. I can't image you are going to have much need to play PAL games? <

Well I got my chip installed and now I have a new problem, my xbox is fragging, the light on the front turns green, then goes out, turns green again then goes out and then it comes on and flashes green and red, thats all I get on both banks, with the enabled and not enabled. I've heard that this means that the chip is installed incorrectly. Can anyone verify this???? I am using a v1.6 xbox and an Xecuter 2.6 Lite modchip

Any help would be handy

I worked fine before you installed the chip, right?  And the chip is the only change you made...you didn't mess with the HD yet? <

No i haven't messed with the hdd as of yet, but I did solve my fragging problem that I was having. For all those interested I had a solder joint that was grounding out on the bottom of the case. Taped all my solder joints with electrical tape and I was up and running.
Now I have a new problem, I have a european board, so the video frequency is not the same hence the v-hold is messed. I have tried to burn and install config magic to my Bios on the chip with no luck. Can anyone point me towords a tutorial that will help me with my problem, I believe that configmagic will work and allow me to change the dvde region. If not is there another bios that will work

Thanks guys <

Configmagic is not a bios and has nothing to do with your modchip. It is an application that can be run from the hard drive or from disc. The program re-writes the eeprom which is on your motherboard. Look around these forums and in the tutorial section on the front page for instructions on how to do the change.
But please READ and UNDERSTAND everything before proceeding, as you can permanently bork your Xbox.

However, Configmagic is useless to you if you cannot get an image that is stable enough to view, so forget about it if this is the case.
Use Enigmah, it is very straight forward and you cannot go wrong with it, it is designed to be used under these conditions. <

What BIOS you use is unimportant, the modchip will already have one and that will suffice. Enigmah can be found in the usual places. <

everything is completely operational, who would have thought that I could have fried one board and then to get a board from overseas that worked and then screw that up and then fix it could be so much fun. Being a newbie to this whole xbox thing, this was a really good learning experiance for me.

Thanks to everyone that has helped me out and gave me little bits of insight

Thanks alot <
