Chip Mode Boots To M$ Now

hi guys, i really hope theres an easy answer to this one.

ive had evolutionx and xbmc running fine now for months with a 200GB drive, i recently decided to try updating to the latest version of xbmc, but in doing so, i think i may have overwritten the evodash.xbe file or something cause now, if i start my xbox in chipped mode (light still goes orange) it boots to the M$ dash.

ok, i thought, ill just run an evolutionX boot disk, so i made one up, threw it in and the xbox tells me its not a valid disk, so i did it again with a different brand of CD-R and it gave me the same error!

do i just need to try another type of CD-R again? or is my problem more serious?
